letting all that powder dry for nothing :(

I see this quite a bit (not just from you).

Can someone explain to me what it means?

bah! can't remember who it was...either Mo or BD Jr from several years ago

regarding keeping resources/money on hand to make a splash when the time is right, and used the phrase "dry powder" to reference it

Here's a link attributing the phrase to Bill DeWitt, Jr. The Goold article dates back to 2008. A quote by DeWitt III can be found at the bottom of the page:http://www.stlbirdsonthebat.org/showthread.php?53265-The-Cardinals-shift-to-a-patient-approach&styleid=11

2008? Really? 11 years ago?

What the hell does that have to do with this season?

Evidently, it's a frequently used phrased by the DeWitts.

You should go look up payroll figures since 2011 compared to today. I think you will be very surprised by want you find.

Payroll has gone up since 2011, but so have revenues.

Revenue isn't profit. I am not saying it isn't happening but I see revenue mentioned so much on here. Profit is the true measure. If other overhead costs are increasing faster than revenue then...

Someone mentioned this metric the other day but I haven't been able to find it, maybe because it isn't publicly available. I don't know.

Because it’s been 11 years and they still have all that dry powder sitting around ...

No they don't.

Sure, pal. I know you’re the local DeWitt apologist but surely you aren’t suggesting that ownership has pushed payroll. What have they spent that “dry powder” on? I’m curious for your response.

In the last ELEVEN years?? Are you serious?

The offseason must really be dragging if we have forty pages of talk about dry powder.

I'd always assumed when anyone brought up "dry powder" it was joke...who knew?

Not to fall down this rabbit hole...but i always attribute the "dry powder" meme to using their "payroll muscle" on star players....guys like well, i dunno, harper or machado.

Yeah, I’m serious. Can you name a specific time they used that dry powder? Holliday maybe? It’s an honest question and I’m not trying to get into a “are the Cardinals cheap” debate because I don’t see either of us changing our opinions. It’s a sincere question.

Harper is the prime Dry Powder candidate and they say "pass" so DeWitt is full of manure

Holliday is a good example.

They certainly lit the fuse when they went for Heyward, Price, and Stanton. Yes, someone stomped it out before it ignited the barrel. But they certainly tried to use it.

They used it last year with Holland.
