Wasn't some deal involving A-Rod (to Boston maybe) blocked because of this concern or a similar one before he signed one of his huge deals?

Re: Waino signed to one year deal
IIRC, they actually wanted him to cut his salary, which he seemed willing to do. But since it was a contract the MLBPA wouldn't allow it and A-ROD stuck with his PA.tlombard wrote:Wasn't some deal involving A-Rod (to Boston maybe) blocked because of this concern or a similar one before he signed one of his huge deals?

Which is why we had to release Rosenthal last year rather than just leave him on the 60 day DL.InvincibleCakeEater wrote:Usually only hear about it with injured players going to arbitration.cardsfantx wrote: I honestly never even knew of this rule till now

Re: Waino signed to one year deal
2 mil base
For games started, he’ll earn $500K upon his fifth start, $1MM upon his tenth and 15th, $1.5MM for his twentieth, and $2MM apiece for his 25th and 30th. Maxing out this run of bonuses would add $8MM of salary.
For relief appearances, Wainwright can earn $500K apiece for every fifth appearance, beginning at #35 and ending at #60. That provides an avenue to $3MM in extra money.
For games finished, Wainwright will receive $500K for the 25th and 30th game in which he records the final out and $600K for every fifth game finished beginning at #35 and ending at #55. If Wainwright serves as the Cards’ closer and meets all of those thresholds, he’d tack on another $4MM, meaning he could in total earn up to an additional $7MM in a relief capacity.

Wow, that is even cheaper than I thought. If he gets 30 starts or closes out 55 and appears 60 games, the Cards are either in BIG trouble or he's having a heck of a season.

Decent deal. Let's hope he's the 25th best player on the 25-man roster.

Waino wins 20 games and gets signed to another two year deal at the end of the season. Bold prediction number 1.
