Re: Yelich, Betts win MVP
Man, I stumped for the Cards to get Yelich for a year and a half. I always thought he was the player we were really after, even when we were working so hard on Stanton. Was pretty disappointed when it became apparent that the Marlins were basically going to force us to take Ozuna and then frustrated beyond belief when they went ahead and traded Yelich to a rival. He'll always be the one that got away for me.

Marlins wanted to keep Yelich at first. Then operation Slash n' Dash or whatever happened and Yelich demanded a trade.
Not sure we had the prospects for a Yelich trade.

Carpenter finished in 9th. Don't know if that triggers any contractual incentives or not.

Sure we did. We just wouldn't have liked it. Flaherty would have been involved. Or possibly Weaver, who was very attractive last winter. Ozuna was the easy and timely get. The Brewers took a risk in waiting for Yelich... or perhaps they sort of allowed the opportunity to fall to them.Big Amoco Sign wrote:Marlins wanted to keep Yelich at first. I'm guessing everyone would have been cool with Flaherty, Bader/O'Neill, Alcantara and Sierra? That's a Yelich trade framework.
Yelich is good, but he's not last year good.

Re: Yelich, Betts win MVP
the top prospect given up for yelich was brinson, who is garbage.
we could have gotten him for less than flaherty.
this was another case of the other "asking for too much" in a trade.
ill eat my word when reyes pitches a full season as a starter

Brinson was the #18 prospect in MLB. Harrison was 50-75 in MLB. Isan Diaz was a top 100.go birds wrote:the top prospect given up for yelich was brinson, who is garbage.

Saying we would have gotten him for less than Flaherty is ignorant revisionism.

revisionism is putting the kind of value on flaherty that you are right now. we had no way of knowing he'd be in the ROY discussion this year, at least not after his debut in 2017.
i went back and looked through the posts and some people were content with giving up flaherty in a deal for yelich.
reyes was considered the better prospect according to rankings and i refuse to believe that a package that included reyes wouldn't have gotten it done.
