There’s a fit there with the Twins, though Martinez might not be enough. Maybe a lower level prospect tossed in?

San Francisco does have a homelessness problem, and I'd imagine that many of them are angry.wart57 wrote:Trade him to San Fran for MadBum......

Re: Find a home for Jose Martinez
As I've posited in another thread (or two), I think the Cards could package Jose and someone (not sure who, probably a minor league SP) to CLE. Using the link below to inform me of their roster, Jose could be the right-handed platoon to Alonso at 1B and Naquin in RF.
https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/cle/roster/
A couple things to keep in mind: Encarnacion is only signed through 2019, though CLE does hold a $20M option for 2020 (buyout of $5M). Alonso is also signed through 2019, with a club option for 2020 at $9M ($1M buyout). Naquin is under team control for 4 more season. Jose could be viewed as an inexpensive successor to Encarnacion or Alonso.
Who could they pry away from the CLE rotation? I'd take Bauer or Kluber or even Clevinger.
Take a look at some of this contractual info (via Cot's) on the following SPs:
Kluber:
2019:$13M
2020:$13.5M club option ($1M buyout)
2021:$14M club option ($1M buyout)
Value of options may increase up to $4M each based on finish in 2015-19 Cy Young votes
Assignment bonus: $1M if traded
If traded in 2015-19, new club must exercise or decline both 2020 and 2021 options within 3 days after end of 2019 World Series
Bauer
Eligible for arbitration this offseason; projected to earn $11+M
Will have final year of arb control in 2020, with free agency looming in 2021
Clevinger
Only 2 years of service time

I doubt that Jose + a prospect is enough to get any of those SP's from Cleveland.

Cardinals need a lefty/switch hitting infielder. I like my target of going after the Rays's Daniel Robertson. Not sure how in love they are with him.
Jose Martinez is an upgrade over Choi and Bauers and he's just the kind of player they like. Super high upside for cheap.

Agree on the need for a LH bat especially off the bench; if Gyorko is on your bench along with O'Neill (assuming Fowler starts), Munoz, JMart, whoever the backup catcher is...yeah we need to make a change there.Big Amoco Sign wrote:Cardinals need a lefty/switch hitting infielder. Robertson is like a better Greg Garcia. Good bench asset with that walk rate and can play all infield positions.
