Trade forthcoming to open up a spot on the 40 man, amirite?

Didn’t really want Goldschmidt, that trade was all about opening up a spot in the 40 man to claim Meisinger

He's got a high walk rate right now. But he's 24. If he can learn control and keep his K-rate up there around 8 or 9, could be a solid RP.

Hearing about his 91mph fastball, slider combo doesn't do much for me.

You just described 75% of MiLB pitchers.

His K:BB rate was fine in the minors.

Meisinger aside, I’d sure like to see the 2nd half of the season BB issue fixed.

Yeah, his BB rate during his brief stint in the majors doesn't match with what he did in the minors. In the minors, he only had one season where he BB'ed over 3 per 9. He had multiple seasons where he BB'ed in the low 2's. K's per 9 were frequently over 10 and never below 9. He gave up 10 HR's total in the minor leagues across 4 seasons. He was an outstanding reliever in the minors and is only 24.

I'm wondering why the Orioles released him. I guess it was just this same roster crunch that the Cards and so many teams are under.

And the fact that they know his arms about to fall off.

They liked his strikeouts and that he has options. Just a depth add. The Cardinals liked the potential of him more than they were interested in participating in the Rule 5 draft. Yes, more roster maintenance is on the way. The Cardinals are going to look to make some trades. That could clear spots. The roster is in flux right now, clearly.

Why did we claim Meisinger? Seems like pretty soon we will have to drop someone from the 40 man roster since we still need a backup C, LH bench bat and at least one LHP for the bullpen. If we keep Meisinger, who gets booted?
Pete Rose? You Bet!
