Is that with PEDs or not?

(hot take alert)

Babe Ruth didn't play with POCs so he'd probably be half as good even in that era if he did.

Barry Bonds didn’t play the aliens. He doesn’t count.

the Adam Ottovino/Babe Ruth thing had me thinking: how much of what studies show as age-related decline is actually time-related? I.e., a 40-year-old is not just slowing down, his training/form/instincts are getting outdated. If someone declines by X each year after 26, how much is age and how much is time? 90/10? 99/1? 100/0? I know there’s no way to do anything but guess, but a guess is all I want

Maybe something like 90/10 or 80/20? We know players get worse because bodies get worse, and we all live that, but also, the young players of today are just plain better than the young players of yesterday. Every rookie class is amazing, on its talent foundation

When Ruth was 7 his family put him in an orphanage/reformatory and his mom died when he was 12. How many kids with that background make it to MLB today? Kids with that background ain't playing travel ball.

I think a guy with the physical skills of Babe Ruth would thrive in any sports era.

As would Jim Thorpe, Wilt Chamberlain, Red Grange, or Jack Kramer.

Right because there were no aliens, whereas there were black guys who were not allowed to play. So you've kinda equated keeping out black people who wanted to play with keeping out aliens who were never present. How very MAGA of you.

True, but I'll throw in another thought. Back when the Babe played baseball was the main sport. Now of course anyone with the talent is able to play but I would suggest that the best athletes of today and the last couple decades really have been drawn to other sports over baseball.
