End of the season I'd offer Goldschmidt 5/125 and front load it.

Seems low for Goldy.

If it's 5/150, not sure I'd do that. I wouldn't necessarily be against it (I feel like he'll age well), just depends on if it hampers them from other moves.

Another route is doing a higher annual and less years (3/105), and see if he bites at that.

I would be shocked if Goldschmidt can get a $30MM AAV as a 32 year old 1B in the new baseball market. The Pujols contract wasn’t that long ago, signed at the same (presumed) age and he got $24MM AAV.

I think it will be in the $26-28MM range.

You guys make no sense

We have one thread saying a 32 year old 1b getting 25ish AAV is way too low...

And we have another thread basically stating the owners are colluding/suppressing the market on FA...

It can’t be both

I think that's probably the case if there's a 6th or 7th year attached.

I'm not sure that we fully understand where the FA market it. This whole FA's not getting good contracts thing is all of a winter a month old. But, yes, based on the evidence we have last year and this year, erring on the side of shorter and cheaper is probably going to be more accurate than longer and more expensive.

+++

Goldschmidt isn't getting 5/150, regardless.

Thank goodness he's providing 35 million in value for 15 million this season.

That’s not how “value” actually works. And it also has no bearing on what teams are willing to pay him for his next contract.

Goldschmidt will certainly get 5/130 or more.

And Miguel Cabrera should be a cautionary tale for extending him.
