No. He was legit good. Over the 4 years prior to his signing he had a 2.90 ERA, 2.73 FIP and 11.5 K/9.

Hell, even in his not good first year he managed a 3.26 FIP. He just seems to have broke.

Gregerson and Cecil are injured making room for Brebbia and Leone. That helps.
Still need Mayers (7.15 ERA in 62 IP) to step aside for Reyes if we go with 12 pitchers. So let's just go with 13 pitchers.

Miles Mikolas
Carlos Martinez (DL)
Jack Flaherty
Michael Wacha
Adam Wainwright
Dakota Hudson

Andrew Miller - MLB deal
Jordan Hicks - options but one of our better relievers
Alex Reyes - options but we need him to boost this bullpen
John Brebbia - options but one of our better relievers
Domonic Leone - options
John Gant- no options
Chasen Shreve - no options
Mike Mayers - no options
Brett Cecil (DL)
Luke Gregerson (DL)

I'd go with a 4 man bench of Weiters (C), JMart (PH1), O'Neill (OF, PH2), and Gyorko (IF, PH3).

Yairo Munoz and Drew Robinson to AAA waiting for another injury... which might be Gyorko.

It should be a wild ride with the 2019 bullpen; here are their ST stats so far...
Andrew Miller - 4 BB in 4.2 IP
Jordan Hicks - 7 BB in 6.0 IP
Alex Reyes - 5 BB in 6.0 IP

John Brebbia - 1 BB in 7.2 IP
Domonic Leone - 2 BB in 6 IP
John Gant- 3 BB in 13 IP
Chasen Shreve - 7 BB in 7.1 IP
Mike Mayers - 5 BB in 7.1 IP

Would not be surprised to see late spring training trade, it really looks like they have no choice, if they truly want to start the season with the best 25, also they have to make room for Carlos at some point, or at least let's hope so...

Cardinals optioned LHP Austin Gomber to Triple-A Memphis.

Gomber lost out to Dakota Hudson in the competition for the fifth spot in the Cardinals' season-opening starting rotation, but he'll probably be the first man up if something goes wrong at the major league level. The 25-year-old left-hander posted a 4.44 ERA, 1.51 WHIP, and 67/32 K/BB ratio over his first 75 big league innings in 2018.

I'm not concerned about the arms they have, at least going by spring training numbers. What I don't like is they may keep guys just because they don't have options, now it's long season and they may need those arms throughout the year, but I wouldn't mind them moving one or two pitchers. My first choice would be Gant.

Cardinals manager Mike Shildt announced Thursday that Alex Reyes will open the 2019 season in the bullpen.

There was some talk early in camp about Reyes potentially opening the season in the Cardinals' starting rotation, but this is still a win for the 24-year-old right-hander considering all he's battled health-wise over the last two-plus years. He can be a weapon in relief for St. Louis and may even factor into the conversation for saves.
