Dakota Hudson or John Gant? And how long do they keep that 5th starter role?
Craig Edwards

I like both in that end of rotation role and think piggybacking them early on wouldn't be a bad idea though it looks like Hudson is going to get the early nod. Hudson hasn't been able to miss bats in the minors despite what should be a pitch to get them with in the slider. He's a pretty extreme groundball guy and how long he stays in the the rotation is going to depend on Wacha and Wainwright staying in it once the Cardinals get Martinez back in a month or two.

Kinda seems like it.
I mean, not officially. At least not yet. Both guys have time on the injured list to get right.
IF that happens, and IF the bullpen needs help, then you will see them get another shot.
But I can't imagine Shildt will be eager to remove a performing reliever for a test case on fading veterans who have had multiple chances.
We'll see.

There was a magical stretch from April 29 - May 7, 2018 where Gregerson pitched 4 1/3 innings and did not allow a hit or walk. Let us never forget.

Wasn't sure where to put this but this could possibly be something for the Cardinals to look in to?

Cecil had carpal tunnel surgery today. So we'll see him again in 2022.

Carlos Martinez (shoulder) will resume throwing off a mound on April 13.
Martinez has expanded his long-tossing up to 120 feet and is almost ready to try things from the bump. He will remain in St. Louis to continue his throwing program until he's sent out on a rehab assignment, which could happen before the end of the month. The Cardinals have not committed to what role Martinez will fill upon his return.

In the year 2022, if Cecil throws off a mound or twoheyzeus wrote:Cecil had carpal tunnel surgery today. So we'll see him again in 2022.
we'll wonder at the games he blew
In the year 3022,
Scientists will rave about the arm they re-grew
Won't matter 'cause he won't get an out
He'll walk tons of batters, without a doubt
In the year 4022,
Fans will want to bid Cecil adieu
But his hundred-year extension will make them cuss
Between stints on the IL and throwing pus
In the year 5022
Cecil's arm's attached to a pile of goo,
Fans watch balls hit to the stratosphere
As the arm serves up home runs all year
In the year 6022
Scientists promise a medical breakthrough
But all the fans begin to flip
As the arm racks up a record-high WHIP
In the year 7022
Five millennia of misery for me and you
Busch Stadium floods with an ocean of tears
After millions of wrecked livers and trillions of beers
In the year 2022, if Cecil throws off a mound or two,
we'll wonder at the games he blew
