I have never heard this phrasing before but I know exactly what it means.

Is that bad?

Goldschmidt, clad in Cardinals red, and Ozuna join early 'Birds already in Jupiter

He tugged on a red batting practice hat — with the single bird on a bat — and a red shirt with the interlocking “STL.” Matt Carpenter wore a similar shirt, though faded, as they took the field for informal workouts. Goldschmidt’s arrival completed the starting infield — the foursome of Carpenter at third, Kolten Wong at second, Paul DeJong at shortstop, and Goldschmidt, the new fixture at first — all present and accounted for more than a week before mandatory, full-squad workouts begin.

“Get down here, get the lay of the land, get to know guys, and continue preparing for spring training and opening day,” Goldschmidt said. “Seeing guys come in a week or two early you can get on the field, start moving around, and build up to (official) spring training. My perspective: It’s impressive to have all these guys here. You can definitely show up day-of, which is fine, and you can still get ready. But definitely these guys are committed.”

In the middle of a series of drills on the Cardinals’ training turf near the batting cages, Goldschmidt had to briefly pause for a bear hug.

Marcell Ozuna had arrived.

Nice read. I am ready.

I am so stoked for the first time I see Goldschmidt, Ozuna, and Carpenter together in uniform.

It's cool to see so many reporting early, I know that happens every year, just seems like more than usual. Looking for a reason, might first thought is, they're real excited to have a spring training with Mike Schildt, and they're equally excited that 22 has moved on...Good luck Mike Matheny, don't think many will miss you, except the church ladies.
