Best Cardinal Center Fielder
According to the hate messages in my PM inbox; it is time for another poll. After focusing on pitchers in the last few polls it had me thinking about some of the starting positions on the field...I think some of the positions are no brainers...Ozzie at SS for example; but I think there is room for debate on most of them especially Center Field. The Cardinals have had some great defenders in Center...I tried to pick the five top candidates and focused on players that made the majority of their starts in CF. So pick your favorite; and let us know why you made that choice.

For me it was an Edmonds vs McGee debate...though Flood was probably a superior defender to McGee though I don't have first hand information on that; just based on what I have read and heard from people. Lankford was a fine player but I think his value was more as an offensive force than his defense. I know from reading that Moore was a well regarded defender; but I really don't know much about him even from secondhand sources.

I'm too young to have watched Flood or Moore. I voted Jimmy, but yeah, McGee is my all time favorite.

Re: Best Cardinal Center Fielder
The sad aspect of Flood's career is that he misjudged the flyball in '68 and then a year later effectively ended his career by challenging the reserve clause.
He was done at 31. His comeback attempt at 33 didn't pan out.
Prior to '68 he was a 6 time GG CF, 3 time All Star, and a fine hitter. If his career had continued uninterrupted into his late 30s, he might of had HOF numbers.
I voted for Curt although I was only 8 years old when his career ended. He was a hero when I was a kid.
