Paging Fat Strat and others on any scouting/statistic/skill that Mejia might possess that we won't see with the naked eye.

His splits vs lefties this year and career have been bad. Atrocious vs. righties. Groundball rate sucks. Not sure what they see in him. Must be something Maddux thinks he can correct?

He had a 1.1 fWAR season on basically the same peripheral stats he has now. FWIW. This is only thing I can find. He might be productive in garbage innings? Ugh.

Reliever WAR is meaningless, but looking at K-BB % though, it's the same this year as his decent 2017.

There’s some sort of interesting performances in the high minors several years ago. He is maybe a just above replacement level swing man... sort of like what Gomber might have been this season. So, maybe he is an acceptable lefty specialist at some point? Not ideal for a stretch run at all. I am hesitant to even say that there is something Maddox might be able to fix. I think that this guy was just available and could sort of be useful, and so we picked him up.

This seems like a January move, where you can stash a guy on your 40. Not a roster-spot eating, 40-man taking guy you have to pitch in a playoff chase.

I guess when the roster expands we'll be able to loogy any team into submission.

I agree with this. The Cards often create the 40-man messes that they then allow to paralyze them.

We can create space for this guy, but Arozarena can’t get out of Memphis... 40 man!

Good point, actually. This is like an August move for September in July because August moves basically can’t happen anymore. It still leaves us with roster problems between now and then. September is a lot of important baseball games away from now.

They'd create space for Arozarena if they wanted him in the big leagues.
