Coupled with the false accusation that to ask was to serve as a stooge for Cardinals management.

Jeff Luhnow was in the front office for almost a decade and established a lot of what made the team run well organizationally. He left and built Houston into, frankly, a powerhouse. He took over a 56-win team, scrapped everything that wasn't working and had them 1 win from the LCS in three years, won a WS a couple years later, and they're about to have their 3rd straight 100-win season, something the Yankees franchise has done only once over several dynasties. It might really be as simple as: for a while we had one of the 3-4 best front office men in baseball and now we don't. As baseball catches up analytically you have to have an innovator on the cutting edge of everything like Luhnow, Friedman, Hoyer, or you're behind. Right now the Cards are behind.

I'm afraid that as long as 3.4 million file in every year there is no disconnect between Cards management and fans.

Depends on the fan. Some rando who is a movie fan and had comics as a kid can walk in off the street, watch a Marvel and be like "that was enjoyable. Good stuff." The same movie, the "fans" who make a religion of Marvel could absolutely hate. Us on GRB are the Marvel nerds of Cardinals fandom. We spend a lot of time micro-analyzing the nano details of this team, and there is a disconnect because they're not winning like they used to and all of us on this board are among the most intelligent fans with ideas for how it could be different.

Will the Cardinals make any front office changes after this season?

Craig Edwards
Nothing too big. I'm sure there will be some shuffling around like there already has been on the development and data side, but the team is competitive and is going to draw a ton of fans this season. There's going to be some people upset about the season if they miss the playoffs, but people were pretty upset last year and Paul Goldschmidt was enough to turn the public back toward the team. If they do miss the playoffs, I expect they'll need to make another similar move for next season, likely with a starting pitcher and that will be viewed as enough.

Don't forget the mid-thirties reliever on the downside of his career!

They've been in the negatives Year-over-year difference in attendance in all but one year the past five years. And so far slightly positive this year (+700 in 54 home games) but that could change in 27 home games left. Especially when team is out of playoff picture--if they are fully out of it early.

More to the point, the average fan cares more about the baseball results than Craig is giving credit here.

Yep. GRB consensus does not equal fans
