They are calling this "the first MLB game in Iowa" and that deserves a bit of an asterisk I think. Lots of games occurred in Iowa in the precursor leagues that eventually folded into the leagues we have today. And I am pretty sure there have been some exhibition MLB games in Iowa over the years, too (for sure, there have been lots of late spring training games involving an MLB club and their minor league affiliate). But, yes, it will be the first regular season MLB game in the modern era in the state. They're going to build a temporary 8,000 seat stadium for it.

I like how they have a few of these gimmick games every year. Breaks up the monotony of a long season with a few of these attraction games.

A temporary 8000 seat stadium sounds weird.

Didn't they basically do the same thing for game at the Army base in North Carolina?

Now the real question is how do they figure out how to do a game related to the movie The Sandlot?

I am cautiously optimistic about this baseball match.
