I love the game of football but I hate the product the NFL puts out.
Is baseball going down the same path?

What is it about umpires blowing a ball or a strike call that some people find appealing?

At least we'll finally have a uniform strikezone across MLB and no longer each home plate umpires interpretation of whats a strike.

Part of the fun of the game for me is the human element.
I guess I'm weird that way.

You should be relieved to know that it's still humans playing the game.Fat_Bulldog wrote:Part of the fun of the game for me is the human element.

Computers don't take being called out for a blown call personally.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote:What is it about computers blowing a call that some people find appealing?pioneer98 wrote:What is it about umpires blowing a ball or a strike call that some people find appealing?

My favorite part of baseball is the 60 year old men with naturally diminished eyesight telling me if a ball traveling 100 mph crosses into their own version of a strikezone.

Who is to say that in 1857 the National Association of Base Ball Players didn’t wish they had an impartial electronic box that determined ball or strikes, but ultimately had to settle for a sometimes flawed man (or eventually woman, but that’s a different topic) to make the calls. All the while hoping technology could catch up to the game they envisioned?

'tis a gift to have a God-machine call the balls and strikes for thee,
And when the pitch at the plate is called just right
I will be in the valley of love and delight
