Don't look now, but Patrick Wisdom may actually be on to something. His ISO is the highest it has been since rookie ball, he is now batting over .280 this season. His K% has also dropped significantly and most this progress has been realized after he got sent to extended spring following a horrible April. It's pretty exciting considering he has been major league ready defensively since day 1. Hope he keeps it up!

All seven minor league affiliates for the Marlins are in last place in their divisions. Marlins only avoided this fate themselves by being in the same division as the Phillies.

What Are They Still Doing In The Minors?

Jesus Montero.
Last year gets all fat, gets sent home--like, who gets sent home who's not in high school, just, hey, pack your stuff and go home?--then this year comes to ST all BSOHLed out and is murdering AAA pitching. 336/374/531. Looks like the Montero who was a top-5 prospect a few years ago, is 25, not a baby anymore but still young enough. They call him up right before the break, he goes 3-10 with 3 walks, they send him right back down. The "they" in question is Seattle, the team with the 2nd-worst OBP (299) and wRC+ (93) in the AL, just one of the lousiest offenses in baseball. The alternatives to Montero at 1B/DH right now are Logan Morrison (0.0 fWAR in almost 400 PA and a 87 wRC+) and Mark Trumbo (an amazing -1.1 fWAR compiled in just 140 PA thanks to his 61 wRC+). Those 3 times Montero walked in a week are as many times as Trumbo walked in June. And April. He should be up.

Robert Refsnyder
He's not going to win any MVPs, but he's solid. He crushed spring training this year and had people buzzing that he should make the Yankees out of camp. The Yankees being the Yankees though there were veterans at 2B--Stephen Drew (-0.2 fWAR in 295 PA) and our old pal Brendan Ryan (hurt most of the year, started last week for the first time in over 1.5 months). Refsnyder should have been the everyday guy a couple months ago.

Josh Bell
The highest bonus given to a non first-round pick in the history of the draft, the guy the Pirates picked when everyone said "don't pick him he's 100% for sure going to college." And now they are in a Wild Card run and need a 1B and he's in AA at age 22 and walking almost as much as he strikes out (rare for a 22 year old in the high minors) and slashing 313/385/436 while the Pirates continue to run out Pedro Alvarez (himself a famous bonus and the source of the phrase "he wants Pedro Alvarez money") who is at -0.2 fWAR on the year.

Corey Littrell, aka the other guy in the Lackey trade, has a 6/1 K/BB. K's are a little light, and it's high-A (where everybody strikes out) and he's a college pitcher. I know nothing about him, and his arm may well have fallen off in June, but I find it funny that he's having a nice season.

My River Bandits just won their 9th in a row to improve to 71-36 on the season. They went 45-23 in the first half and are 26-13 in the 2nd half so far. Kane County is 3 games ahead of them in the 2nd half standings, but the Bnadits are 6 games ahead in the overall standings.

The remarkable thing to me about their season is that there are only 8 players on the team today that started the season with them, and 105 different names have appeared on the roster. Tons of callups and transactions. Bregman only played 26 games here before moving up. Nottingham, Fisher, etc moved up long ago. They are doing all of this with basically depth players at this point. It's crazy.

Since I put that post up there re three guys still down in the minors, Montero is back and has 4 doubles and 2 HR. He's only not had a hit in one game he started in that stretch and is having a nice positive impact on Seattle's run production. Logan Morrison (he of the 220/296/365 line) has been relegated to pinch-hitting duty.

Does anyone know why Bryan Dobzanski has only thrown 15 innings this year?

He's been injured for a while. Some sort of muscle injury if memory serves, so at least it's not an arm injury.
