Is Oscar Mercado becoming a legit prospect again in CF?
currently batting .341/.413/.549, with a 24:9 K:BB. Also 6 for 10 on stealing attempts so far.

Some guys take longer to develop. I think, and have no proof, that getting off SS has allowed him to just play rather than the pressure of his fielding disintegrating on him.go birds wrote:Is Oscar Mercado becoming a legit prospect again in CF?

Going into his Senior year of high school he was considered a lock top-10 draft pick as an elite defensive SS who had 70 grade speed. That is not the player he's developing into at all.

Quick search showed his K% way up, contact rate down and >.400 BABIP with a reworked swing.

His batted ball profile is way different from the rest of his career too.
His ISO is .100+ greater than his career average of around .075
He is hitting LDs at 28.6% (career 16.8%) and FBs at 28.6% (career 40.4%). GB rate is unchanged.
Lastly, his hits are going to CF more at 31.3% (career 24.5). Odd thing is the increase in balls hit to CF have come entirely to the detriment of his hits to the pull side. Balls to the opposite field fall right in line with career averages, but balls to LF-his pull side- are at 45.3% (career 50.9%).
Defesively all we really have to go off of is put-outs and errors. He is recording just shy of 3 put-outs per game which is a very good clip for CFers and has not comitted an error yet. Combine that info with the knowledge of his 70-grade speed and big arm It is safe to assume he looks damn good in CF.
