Great information, Phin, thanks. The Card's system has become really good at producing relievers and role players it seems.

Re: Cards top-20 prospects in my view
Just nitpicking here and over analyzing, but that 3rd-to-last pitch Shelby threw (and the one after it) seemed to have a different follow through. Motion seemed the same all the way up until he was about to unload, then everything just looked different. Anyone else see it? Both pitches looked to be breaking balls. It's obviously a coachable thing, just making notes in my head.

It seems to me that Mark Hamilton rakes with the bat, especially in the last week. Does he have any upside, MLB-wise?

Decent power hitting 1B only types carry very little value in reality.
Hamilton most likely never sticks in the majors with any regularity, but like any number of players like him, he can hit.

I hadn't realized that. I had only seen a couple of the errors in the games I saw, and he didn't play regularly, anyway. He seemed to have decent fundamentals at stopping balls in the dirt and the other aspects of being a catcher. I guess I was dazzled a bit by his great arm, but the stats do not lie.New Pagodi wrote:He's allowed 99 stolen bases and has a 28.8 caught stealing percent. To go along with that, he has 16 throwing errors. It's probably a bad idea to analyze catching ability from box scores, but nevertheless I'm pretty sure he has no future as a catcher. If he has a future in baseball it's going to have to be as a pitcher.st.lewis11 wrote:I read the minor league forum, and I also appreciate the contributions you guys have made.
One guy I'm curious about , though.....because I seem to remember some high marks when he was drafted, do any of you have an analysis of Robert Stock? Is the brass still contemplating a conversion to pitching or OF, or will he be able to stick at catching? Do you see him eventually reaching the majors?

What about D'Marcus Ingram?
Honestly, I'd rank him above Rainel Rosario at this time. Rosario had a great month of August of course, but I'm just not sure he can keep it up. His power numbers (homers and doubles) inexplicably jumped after moving up from Batavia to QC. We'll find out next year if he can keep it up for a full season.
I see Ingram's numbers declined a bit after moving up to Palm Beach, but I still think he has a lot of potential. I guess I was wowed by the great numbers he put up when he was in QC. He really looked like he took a step forward. Ingram is a year older than Rosario.

I had Ingram in that next tier last year, and still have him there. Rosario has power tools, and that's something I rate better than speed.
Nothing wrong with Ingram making the slow and steady climb, and giving us another C+/B- prospect.

In honor of phin's 2010 top 20, here's his 2006 Top 15 from the ill-fated Cardinals site I ran, CardsBaseball.net:

If only we knew then what we know now....

I can't decide if I suck, or if the Cards system sucked that year. Probably a little of both. Hilarious that you have that. I had completely forgotten about that.
It's funny to see how much I liked Ottavino at the time, considering I couldn't stand him after watching him live later in his career.
