OK, now that I read it again I don't think that it was Mo comparing Martinez to Miller. It was Mo saying that Martinez was ahead of where he thought he would be. Right now I would still give Miller the edge based on maturity and development of secondary pitches. That could change though. I hope we have to debate which one of them is better for the next 22 years.

Breaking pitch was pretty filthy, but lost movement after the 3rd inning.

Lefty Justin Wright is tiny, but has a really live arm. His delivery reminds me a lot of Tim Collins for the Royals. Jonathan Rodriguez also looked noticeably bad at third base, as he committed two errors last night.

Rodriguez is one of those great character org. guys who will make a lot of money to play baseball in the minor leagues for a long time. You know, the guy who shows the Latin players the ropes, translates, shows them where to go etc. and the right way to do things.

If you're a really good dude, and willing to do what the org. asks of you, you can stick around a long time, even if you might not have the talent to actually make it to the show

I'd like to see Martinez move to High-A pretty shortly. That would put him on track for AA early next year.

They like to give pitchers a full year at QC. I don't know why, since PB is a pitcher's park and the competition isn't a ton better. I've always secretly wondered if they just preferred having the kids in Eastern Iowa rather than South Florida.

Maybe its easier to get more pitching instruction at QC than PB?

It's probably just that they like to combine the A+ year with the AA year and to give them one full year in one spot to learn the ropes. If you succeed in QC for a full year, then you're fine to get a half season at PB and a half season in Springfield -- assuming everything goes right.

They like their biggest pitching prospects to get time with Dennis Martinez at PB though. I think he's new to the States and John Rodriguez at QC is a good guy to help him get comfortable.

There's no rush at all. Leave him at QC most of the year and give him a cup of coffee at PB if you want to.

I do think it's less important for a pitcher to move at a certain pace than it is for hitters. He's throwing the ball. That's what he'd do at any level. I know it's important for pitchers to learn to work from the stretch and to focus on making pitches when it's needed, but right now they're most focused on Carlos developing his pitches and being consistent. Plus I think Phins is spot on. He's a young kid new to a completely different country that doesn't speak his language. Teaching him how to be a ball player and a member of this society is about as important to his development as working on his secondary pitches.
