so he's jon jay then...phins wrote:Yeah, I've seen him live a dozen times or more and he played CF every time I watched him but possibly one, where he might have DH'd for whatever reason. I have not seen him play in Memphis yet.
He'd be passable in CF for a while, but he's a good corner OF'er in my mind. He's not the fastest guy, and his initial instinct is to find the ball rather than reading it immediately off the bat. Some guys do that in CF because the angle is so much different. It's a lot easier to read the ball off the bat in a corner and you can usually play the spin as well. In CF you need more range and read the ball better. I'd have no problem with him playing there for a few years, but he's never going to make you miss Jim Edmonds out there.
At least in my mind...
not the fastest guy
not sharp/quick instincts
bad range
plus the bad arm for jay...what is oscar's arm like?
i guess then we shouldn't experience a drop off since jay is awful out there

Re: Oscar Taveras
Judging by a throw he made in Spring Training, Taveras has a pretty good arm.

Tavares has a 50 arm in RF. 55 or maybe a tick higher in CF.
He's got a solid arm, better than Jay.

Taveras is probably going to end up in right field. The Cardinals will have to find a long-term answer in center field through free agency or trade, I think.

And where will craig play? First? Well, that's Adams' spot.STL_Cards wrote:Taveras is probably going to end up in right field. The Cardinals will have to find a long-term answer in center field through free agency or trade, I think.
No, he'll be in center until one of those two or Holliday leaves.

Craig is the first baseman. Adams is trade bait. I don't see the Cardinals moving Craig to another position.RxOfCowbell wrote: And where will craig play? First? Well, that's Adams' spot.

Re: Oscar Taveras
Oscar Taveras (ankle) will not participate in the 2013 Futures Game this month at Citi Field.
Taveras is beginning to turn the corner in his recovery from a high ankle sprain, but he's not going to be 100 percent healthy by the time the July 14 Future Games rolls around. The 21-year-old top outfield prospect should climb his way to St. Louis at some point this season. He is batting .306/.341/.462 with five homers, five steals and 32 RBI in 46 games at the Triple-A level.
