2014 Draft

Post by go birds »

No discussion on this? Isn't it coming up pretty soon?

Any idea on targets?

I believe i heard that this draft is pitching heavy, which unfortunately doesn't seem to be an immediate need for us at the moment.

Sorry, I just haven't had the time to put together a draft preview this year and I'm in a wedding next weekend so I won't even be following the draft. I'm sure Future Redbirds will give some decent coverage of our draft.

This draft is high on prep bats and there are a ton of polished college OF/1B type prospects as well. Of course, Blandino is also a college bat who is highly regarded (moreso by others).

I got to see him in the CWS a year ago and at the Big Ten tournament this year: I have a mancrush on Kyle Schwarber. No way he makes it to us though.

I hope this is of some use to someone. I perused through some of the top mock sites to see who they project us taking. Admittedly, I haven't followed it as much this year, so I don't know a lot about these guys.

I know you always take the BPA, but i really hope we're able to grab a high ceiling SS.

It's so difficult to mock up a draft in any sport, esp. baseball. I tend to follow the draft more after it happened then before, outside of the first few picks. No way in hell I take Rodon at 1.

Schwarber has a little of the Jon Jay happy hands thing going on.

if gatewood falls to us, i'd be beyond excited. he's 6'5", so i doubt he stays at SS.....but some scouts i've read have said he shows the greatest power potential in the class.

That's the extent of what I know about him as well. He's probably got a move to third somewhere down the line, but he does show good power. Callis & Mayo seem to think his projected draft spot is all up and down the first round.

Of the guys mentioned, I did watch Luke Weaver in the Regionals this weekend. They compared his delivery to Tim Lincecum, but I definitely didn't see that.
