He does, but take a look at how the bat coils at 2:26 on this video:

Legs are flying, hands are flying, bat is all coiled up .... more moving parts that what Jon Jay had.
Yeah, but not everyone needs a flawless, pretty swing. Taveras has an ugly one. Taveras is gonna rake. So is Baez.

There's still a lot of moving parts, but when you have Gary Sheffield bat speed you can afford a bit more pre-pitch movement like he did too. Baez's problem with a bullet is approach/pitch recognition, I've not seen anyone think that his swing itself will be an issue.
First name I thought of as well.

I really wanted Gallo at Piscotty's spot in the 2012 draft.

Taveras has an ugly swing? He has a pronounced follow through, is that what you don't like?

Not everyone plays the game by the book, and I'm the last person to think that it's smart to coach the athleticism out of someone. But ... it's still something that could be a problem. MLB pitchers have a way of finding holes and exploiting them, and with a swing like Baez has I really think there isn't alot of room for error. He has great reflexes, and that might be all he needs.

I don't dislike anything in Taveras's swing. Not one thing. He has an unconventional swing that looks violent, effortful and to a casual observer out of control. I've never had a problem with it because every time I've seen him he's hit the snot out of everything, his bat speed is fantastic, and regardless of how it looks he barrels up balls really well.

That his swing is not conventionally pretty is why he was the #70-some prospect in baseball a couple years ago after he annihilated low-A at age 19. If his swing hadn't had that funk on the end every Keith Law and Keith Law wannabe on the internet would have been pronouncing him the Best Hitting Prospect Since Forever, but we had to wait a year for all that after he did it in AA after skipping high-A.

There are biases against swings that are not conventional. Personally, I don't have them. But a lot of people--many of them people who shape opinions about such things--do.
