Magneuris Sierra, OF
Born: April 7-ish, 1996-ish.
Signed: Dominican Republic, 2012. $105,000.

Sierra has a stead, line drive swing that keeps the barrel in the zone, and the bat control to connect it with pitches throughout the zone. He uses all fields and figures to maintain that high-average ability as he develops an approach that could belong at the top of the order. His broad shoulders and athleticism hint at strength he'll gain as he matures, but he doesn't have that lift for future power. He has speed on the bases and in the field, making him one of the finest fielders at his position in the GCL.

Future: The secret is out. A name whispered throughout the Cardinal organization is now one known beyond their academy and expectations will surge accordingly. A year at another short-season club is possible in 2015 before he slingshots to higher levels.
I would pronounce his first name mawg-nay-OOO-reese, but I'm sure Shannon will correct me.

Very surprised Luke Weaver didn't make the Top Ten.

Me too. I would put him ahead of Tuivaivavlavalavla and Cooney.

Cooney was pretty unimpressive at AAA (if you look past ERA) and he's no spring chicken. 24 year old last year. He's going to need to bounce that K/BB rate back up to show he's a capable MLB starter. Not a bad prospect at all, but Weaver's in the Marco Gonzalez/Michael WAcha mold. He's going to move fast. Doesn't have Wacha's stuff, but he's not far from Gonzalez.

I'm sure that BA is giving Cooney credit for being MLB ready, but Weaver could catch up very fast. The last two 1st round pitchers we've taken have ended up in the majors the year after they were drafted. If Weaver follows that pattern, then he could beat Cooney up. (All of that is highly unlikely).

Here is some video of Flaherty. You need to go up to :50 to see him pitch. He has a very tight and quiet delivery. I like it alot. If he stays healthy I predict good things from this young man.
