Re: Baseball America-Alex Reyes
at this rate i doubt the cards will be fighting for anything by the end of july so i cant see them throwing him in the rotation. i imagine he will go the same path as the rest of our top pitching prospects...bullpen, then fight for a spot next year, then finally earn a spot eventually

Good. I'm a big proponent of watching what prospects do after they fail for a little bit. It tells me a lot about the things that I cannot couch scout. I think we have something here, and I think he has a huge future, but how he responds to the few times he gets lit up will speak a tiny bit to what's inside of him.Magneto2.0 wrote:Got knocked around today. 1.2, 6 runs, 4 runs, 1bb, 4 ks.

Baseball America updated their top 100 prospect list 2 days ago. Alex Reyes is the number 2 prospect in all of baseball.

If you watched him in the Futures Game, you saw exactly what you'll normally see from Reyes.
I'm not sure I remember watching a pitcher having velocity quite as easily as Reyes does. It's a smooth, easy, leg kick and drive towards the plate and then you're getting 101 mph out of a nice high arm slot. The curveball is a swing-and-miss pitch, but he needs to learn to get it down more. The changeup is just a solid pitch that plays way up due to the velocity.
When it all clicks and he has command and control, you'll never see a better pitching prospect than Reyes. That's quite inconsistent right now though.
