Sounds like we went over our bonus pool just with Machado, so we'll be paying a tax on our signings. I'm okay with that.

per law:
Jonathan Machado, OF
Havana, Cuba
Team linked: Cardinals

Machado is a little guy (5-8 or 5-9) with plus speed and a slap approach that at least produces good backspin out to the gaps. He's a center fielder with an average arm and good all-around instincts. There have been some questions about how sustainable his increase in strength over the last year will be, as he wasn't expected to show this much hard contact given his small frame. He's expected to sign with St. Louis.

Victor Garcia, OF
Venezuela
Team linked: Cardinals

Garcia is a one-tool guy, but that one tool is power, so that makes him interesting. His plus bat speed and the leverage he creates allow him to take the ball out to any part of the field. Pitch recognition doesn't appear to be a strength, and he sells out for power on a consistent basis. He does have a decent arm, but he's a well-below-average runner, and he doesn't have great instincts in the outfield. The power is legit, but everything else is pretty shaky. The Cardinals are the favorites to sign Garcia.

I'm not sure how deep the MI pool for international prospects has been in the past, but it looked pretty deep this year and the cards signed all OFers and RHPs (and a catcher).
