The San Antonio Missions (Brewers) scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth to walk off the Memphis Redbirds (21-19) in the series opener Thursday night in San Antonio, Texas, 4-3.

Tommy Layne entered with a one-run lead in the bottom of the ninth and got a quick groundout, before two walks and a hit loaded the bases with two outs. Tyler Saladino then doubled home a pair to give San Antonio the victory.

A win would have been Memphis' fourth in the last five games.

The Sounds then took a 2-1 lead in the fifth and kept their lead through six innings before the Redbirds put up a three-spot to take the lead for good.

Tommy Edman tied the game with an RBI double that scored Kramer Robertson, Lane Thomas singled home Edman, and Ravelo provided another run with a knock to left field that plated Thomas and gave Memphis a 4-2 advantage.

The Redbirds' bullpen locked down after that, with Dominic Leone, Jesus Cruz, and Chris Beck retiring all nine Sounds they faced to finish the game. The trio struck out five Nashville hitters. Beck earned his fourth save of the year by closing out the victory.

Drew Robinson swiped two bases in the game to give him nine on the year, and Max Schrock and Thomas also stole bases.

Nashville (17-27) only had two at-bats with runners in scoring position.

This Irving Lopez kid in Springfield should play some MLB. He's essentially a non prospect, but I could easily see him as a new Descalso.

He keeps showing up in the box score doesn't he? You never know how a player might develop or come out of nowhere.

May 22nd Wrap

Memphis

Redbirds Wallop Nashville, 10-0
Tyler O'Neill, Kramer Robertson, and Tommy Edman all homered and combined for eight hits and all 10 Memphis RBI, and Rangel Ravelo extended his hitting streak to 17 games in a 10-0 Memphis Redbirds (23-23) thumping of the Nashville Sounds (Rangers) Wednesday night in Nashville, Tenn.

Edman finished 3-for-5 with his fifth home run of the season, a walk, and four RBI, and O'Neill cracked his eighth home run in 15 games with the Redbirds. Seven of those home runs have come against Nashville. Robertson added his first Triple-A home run, a three-run shot in the fourth inning after O'Neill's blast in the third. Edman's long ball also plated three.

Ravelo singled in the eighth inning, his final at-bat of the night, to move his hitting streak to 17 games. He is three shy of tying the franchise record. During his streak, Ravelo is hitting .468 (29-62).

Daniel Ponce de Leon moved to 4-2 on the season after tossing 5.0 shutout innings, allowing just three hits. He struck out six and walked three. Chris Ellis, Hunter Cervenka, and Chasen Shreve finished the game with 4.0 shutout innings.

Ponce de Leon has won 10 of his last 14 decisions at the Triple-A level.

John Nogowski was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored, and Andrew Knizner, Ramon Urias, and Robertson also scored twice.

O'Neill jumped right on Nashville (17-28) in the top of the first, singling home the game's first run, and he homered in the third. Robertson's three-run blast in the fourth made it 5-0, and Edman's three-run shot ahead of an O'Neill RBI double blew the game open at 9-0.

Edman added his fourth RBI in the seventh with a single to right field that plated Nogowski.

Cervenka got a double play to end the seventh inning, worked a perfect eighth, and then gave the ball to Shreve who tossed a 1-2-3 ninth to dash any hopes of a Nashville comeback.

Three of Memphis' five highest-scoring games of the season have come against the Sounds.
Springfield

Cardinals collapse in 9th, lose 9-7 to Drillers
A 7-3 ninth-inning lead disappeared on the Springfield Cardinals (18-28) on Wednesday at Hammons Field, losing 9-7 to the Tulsa Drillers (24-21) in front of 3,189 fans.

DECISIONS:
W: LHP Chris Nunn (1-1)
L: RHP Merandy Gonzalez (1-2)
S: RHP Shea Spitzbarth (3)

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED:

- Zach McKinstry's three-run home run off Gonzalez with one out in the ninth put the Drillers ahead 8-7 and completed the all-too-quick comeback win for the visitors. The ninth inning started out in the same fashion, with Carlos Rincon taking Gonzalez deep to leadoff the inning. Four batters later, Gavin Lux singled home a run that cut the Cardinals lead to 7-5. McKinstry's homer immediately followed, and then Angelo Mora made it back-to-back home runs and cemented the 9-7 final.

- After Tulsa had cut a 6-1 Cardinals lead to 6-3 with two runs in the eighth, 2B Irving Lopez pushed what appeared to be an insurance run across the plate in the bottom of the eighth that extended the lead to 7-3.

- Tulsa's late push actually started in the top of the eighth with back-to-back home runs by DJ Peters and Lux, who finished 4-for-5.

NOTABLES:
- Cardinals RHP Williams Perez had an excellent start and exited the game with a 7-1 lead, seemingly in line for what would have been his fifth win. Perez allowed just a single run over 7.0 innings, striking out eight to five hits and two walks on 95 pitches.

- The Cardinals bullpen allowed eight runs on eight hits over the game's final 2.0 innings. Of the four relievers who entered the game after Perez exited, only Ronnie Williams (0.2 IP, 1 K) didn't allow a run.

- LF Randy Arozarena hit his first home run of 2019, doubled and singled in a 3-for-5 day. RF Johan Mieses and 3B Elehuris Montero also went yard.

Chiefs Lose in Wisconsin 7-2 Wednesday
The Peoria Chiefs committed two costly errors in a four-run fifth inning and lost to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 7-2 Wednesday night. The loss drops the Chiefs to 19-26 on the season with one game left in the series.

For the sixth game in a row, one team scored in the first inning of a Chiefs game and Wednesday it was the hosts. Brice Turang singled to center off Colin Schmid and David Fry doubled over the shift with one out. Turang scored on a fielders' choice as he slid past Alexis Wilson's tag and Fry came home on a sacrifice fly as Wisconsin took a 2-0 lead.

The Chiefs got on the board in the fourth against Aaron Ashby. Brady Whalen made it to second for a double as his pop up landed between three Rattlers in right-center. With two outs, Malcom Nunez picked up his fifth RBI of the season with a single to center before Ashby got out of the inning.

Wisconsin broke the game open with plenty of help from the Chiefs in the fifth. With one out, Wadye Ynfante dropped a fly ball in right-center for a two-base error and Kory Howell drew a walk. Turang hit a fly ball to right that Ynfante trapped while diving for the catch and one run scored for a 3-1 lead. With runners on the corners, Connor McVey bunted and two runs scored when Whalen threw wild to first base where nobody was covering. With the Chiefs out of position on the shift, Fry singled home the final run of the inning for a 6-1 Wisconsin lead. The Rattlers added a run on two hits and double play groundout in the seventh.

The Chiefs scored the final run of the game in the eighth when Brendan Donovan hit a solo homer to right, his third of the season. Peoria then grounded into their MWL-leading 35th double play.

Schmid (1-1) took the loss allowing seven runs, five earned, on a career-high nine hits. He walked one and struck out five while tossing 97 pitches and picking off one runner. Evan Sisk allowed an inherited runner to score on one hit over two innings as he struck out two.
