DECISIONS:
W: LHP Austin Warner (3-5)
L: RHP Brian Howard (5-3)
S: RHP Junior Fernandez (4)

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED:
- A two-run fifth inning for Springfield was the difference on the scoreboard as back-to-back RBI singles by CF Dylan Carlson and DH Randy Arozarena turned a 1-1 tie into a 3-1 lead.

- It was 2B Irving Lopez that scored the go-ahead run in the fifth after a leadoff triple. It was also Lopez that tied the game 1-1 with a solo homer (8) to right field in the bottom of the third.

- Four of Warner's 10 strikeouts came in the second inning after RockHounds DH Chase Calabuig struck out but reached on a wild pitch to leadoff the inning.

NOTABLES:
- Warner allowed one run on six hits and a walk over his 6.0 innings of work, exiting with 10 strikeouts for the second time this season (5/14 vs. ARK). Warner has struck out seven or more batters in five of his last six starts and has allowed two earned runs or less in three of his last four.

- Cardinals 3B Yariel Gonzalez had a strong Hammons Field debut, batting 2-for-4 with a double.

- Cardinals 1B Chris Chinea continued to swing a hot bat, mashing his eighth home run of the season in the sixth inning and giving Springfield a 4-1 lead.

Santos (1-0) picked up the win after he pitched one scoreless inning. Edward Cabrera (5-3) went 5 1/3 innings, allowing two runs and three hits while striking out five in the Florida State League game.

Both runs for Palm Beach came in the fourth inning when Chase Pinder scored on a groundout and Scott Hurst hit an RBI single.

The Hammerheads were held scoreless for the ninth time this season, while the Cardinals' staff recorded their seventh shutout of the year.

With the win, Palm Beach improved to 7-2 against Jupiter this season.
Peoria

Chiefs Win 1-0 Tuesday
The Peoria Chiefs got a timely hit and great pitching all night long to beat the Clinton LumberKings 1-0 on Tuesday night. The win moves the Chiefs to 28-36 with two games left in the series and five games left before the All-Star break.

The game was scoreless into the sixth as neither team had a runner past second base in the first five innings. Brendan Donovan drew a leadoff walk in the sixth from All-Star Humberto Mejia and moved to third on a throwing error by Mejia on a bunt by Delvin Perez. Perez was caught stealing before Nolan Gorman walked to put runners on the corners. Brady Whalen put the Chiefs on top 1-0 with a double off the right field wall but Alexis Wilson popped up and Bryce Denton walked to load the bases. Clinton changed pitchers and Alex Vesia struck out Juan Yepez to end the inning.

Kyle Leahy cruised through the first seven innings on just 86 pitches as he struck out seven and allowed four singles. Clinton didn't have a runner past first base in the first six frames as they hit into one double play and stranded three.

Clinton started the eighth inning with a single and a sac bunt to get their first runner to second base. A groundout to second moved the runner to third but Donovan made a diving play at second base and threw out Chris Torres at first base to end the inning.

Leahy (4-4) picked up the win as he allowed five hits, all singles, over a career-high eight shutout innings. He struck out seven and did not issue a walk. Cole Aker earned his second save as he struck out two in a perfect ninth inning.

Memphis

Redbirds Roll to 11-5 Win over Salt Lake
The Memphis Redbirds (28-38) broke a 4-4 tie with five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning en route to an 11-5 win over the Salt Lake Bees (Angels) Wednesday night at AutoZone Park.

Memphis batted around in its five-run seventh, and a Tyler O'Neill two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth made it 11-4 in favor of the Redbirds.

The Bees (29-35) led 3-0 after the top of the first and 4-1 after two-and-a-half innings, before Rangel Ravelo hit a two-run home run in the third to make it 4-3. Ravelo then crossed the plate as the tying run in the bottom of the fifth on a John Nogowski double to deep center field.

Evan Kruczynski battled through 5.0 innings on the mound after a tough first inning, finishing with four runs allowed on eight hits. Four Redbirds relievers threw the final 4.0 innings, with Dominic Leone and Hunter Cervenka striking out the final six Bees of the game.

Ravelo was on base five times, singling three times and drawing a walk in addition to his home run. He scored four of Memphis' 11 runs. O'Neill ended the night 3-for-4 with a walk and three RBI.

Every Memphis starter reached base at least once, and seven scored a run.

Memphis had lost its previous 10 home games prior to tonight's win and scored 21 runs in those 10 contests.
Springfield

RockHounds score 7 after rain delay, Cardinals lose 9-5
A 38-minute rain delay in the top of the sixth did more damage on the scoreboard than it did to the field. The Springfield Cardinals (25-40) entered the delay with a 4-2 lead, but when the sky cleared the Midland RockHounds (32-32) poured six runs on the board in the sixth inning and cruised from there to a 9-5 win.

DECISIONS:
W: LHP Zack Erwin (4-2)
L: RHP Merandy Gonzalez (1-3)
S: RHP Kyle Finnegan (9)

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED:
- Capped by a three-run home run by RockHounds SS Kevin Merrell, Midland scored six of their nine runs in the sixth inning following the rain delay. Gonzalez was on the mound for all six, allowing five runs (2 ER) on three hits and two walks in 0.1 innings. RHP Connor Jones took the mound before the delay and was charged with one run.

NOTABLES:
- Cardinals RHP Roel Ramirez struck out seven over 3.2 scoreless innings in his fourth start of the season. Generally utilized out of the bullpen, Ramirez allowed just two walks and zero hits.

- Freshly back from a stint at Triple-A Memphis, Cardinals DH Jose Godoy sent a 449-foot home run clear over the team's clubhouse and into the employee parking lot in right field that brought Springfield within 8-5 in the eighth. The exit velocity was estimated at 109.9 MPH.

- The bottom of the RockHounds lineup gave Cardinals pitching fits as the 6-9 hitters combined to go 7-for-15 with three walks, four RBIs and six runs.
Palm Beach

Alonso, Mahan lead Jupiter to 4-2 win over Palm Beach
Lazaro Alonso hit a three-run double in the fifth inning, and Riley Mahan doubled and singled as the Jupiter Hammerheads defeated the Palm Beach Cardinals 4-2 on Wednesday.

The double by Alonso scored Mahan, Angel Reyes, and Eddy Alvarez to give the Hammerheads a 4-0 lead.

The Cardinals cut into the deficit in the eighth inning when Lars Nootbaar hit a two-run home run.

Jupiter starter Will Stewart (2-6) picked up the win after allowing four hits over six scoreless innings. Opposing starter Griffin Roberts (0-1) took the loss in the Florida State League game after allowing four runs and six hits over 4 1/3 innings.

For the Cardinals, Nootbaar homered and singled, driving home two runs.

Despite the loss, Palm Beach is 7-3 against Jupiter this season.
Peoria

Jones’ run leads Clinton to 3-2 win over Peoria
Thomas Jones scored the decisive run on a wild pitch in the second inning, as the Clinton LumberKings defeated the Peoria Chiefs 3-2 on Wednesday.

Jones scored after he hit an RBI double and advanced to third on an error.

The walk by Rivera capped a three-run inning for the LumberKings that started when Jerar Encarnacion hit a home run to cut the Peoria lead to 2-1.

In the top of the first, Peoria scored on a sacrifice fly by Brady Whalen that brought home Brendan Donovan. In the following at-bat, Bryce Denton hit an RBI single, scoring Delvin Perez to give the Chiefs a 2-0 lead.

Encarnacion was a triple short of the cycle in the win.

Clinton right-hander Chris Vallimont (4-4) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing two runs on six hits over six innings. Opposing starter Alvaro Seijas (4-5) took the loss in the Midwest League game after allowing three runs and six hits over 5 2/3 innings.

DECISIONS:

Memphis

Garcia Thrills Sellout Crowd with 10th Inning Walk-Off
Adolis Garcia sent an AutoZone Park sellout crowd of 10,881 home happy Friday night after a single up the middle in the bottom of the 10th inning gave the Memphis Redbirds a 5-4 win over the Salt Lake Bees (Angels).

The Redbirds (29-39) trailed 4-1 halfway through the game before beginning their comeback that ended with the team's second last at-bat win of the year.

Rangel Ravelo was at the center of most of the action for the Redbirds, singling and scoring in the first inning, doubling home a run in the fifth, and tying the game in the eighth with a home run.

In his last three games, Ravelo is 9-for-13 with seven runs scored, two doubles, two home runs, and five RBI.

Trailing 4-1 after the top of the fifth, Conner Capel led off the bottom of the fifth with a home run in his first Triple-A game after being transferred from Double-A Springfield earlier in the day. Joe Hudson then singled, moved to third on a pair of groundouts, and scored on Ravelo's two-bagger.

The game remained 4-3 in favor of the Bees (30-36) until Ravelo blasted one over the Redbirds bullpen in the bottom of the eighth to tie things up.

Edgar Gonzalez, up today from Advanced-A Palm Beach, got the first two outs of the ninth inning before hitting a batter, and Tommy Layne entered with Hudson erasing the runner trying to steal second.

Gonzalez fired a scoreless eighth inning as well, with Capel dishing an outfield assist from left field to end the frame. Gonzalez followed Hunter Cervenka, who pitched the seventh inning in relief of Anthony Shew, who allowed four runs on eight hits in 6.0 innings with six strikeouts.

After Memphis' bottom of the ninth ended with a double play, Layne stranded the potential go-ahead run on third base with a strikeout and an easy groundout after a flyout.

Edmundo Sosa started the bottom of the 10th inning on second base as part of Minor League Baseball's pace-of-play initiatives, and he moved to third on a Ravelo groundout. Garcia then promptly lined one back up the middle to plate Sosa and set off the celebration.

In addition to Ravelo's three-hit game, Garcia, John Nogowski, Capel, and Hudson all had two-hit games for Memphis.

A third Redbird made his Triple-A debut in the game, as Irving Lopez entered as a defensive replacement in the fifth after arriving from Springfield.
Springfield

Mieses 3-run homer propels Cardinals to 4-2 win over Hooks
The Springfield Cardinals (27-40) rode a three-run home run by DH Johan Mieses to a 4-2 win over the Texas League South leading Corpus Christi Hooks (32-34) on Friday night in front of 5,958 fans at Hammons Field.

DECISIONS:
W: RHP Angel Rondon (2-0)
L: RHP Cristian Javier (2-2)
S: RHP Bryan Dobzanski (1)

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED:
- With the Cardinals trailing 2-0 in the fourth, Mieses deposited a three-run homer off a 1-2 pitch from Javier that put the Cardinals ahead for good at 3-2.

- Cardinals 2B Alberto Triunfel gave Springfield some breathing room when he drew a two-out bases-loaded walk in the seventh to push the lead to 4-2.

NOTABLES:
- Rondon lowered his ERA to 3.31 by limiting the Hooks to just two runs on four hits and six walks over 6.0 innings, striking out three.

- Springfield pitching held Corpus batters to a 1-for-11 mark with runners in scoring position.

- The Cardinals bullpen closed the game with 3.0 scoreless innings from RHP Mitchell Osnowitz (1.0 IP, 0 H), RHP Connor Jones (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 K) and Dobzanski (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K).

- Dobzanski's save was his first at the Double-A level.

Big Fourth Inning Gives Chiefs Win Against Burlington
Thanks to a five-run fourth inning, the Peoria Chiefs defeated the Burlington Bees 8-5 Friday night at Dozer Park. The Chiefs improve to 29-38 on the season with two games left before the all-star break.

The Bees drew first blood in the top of the first against Chiefs starter Colin Schmid. With runners on first and second, Spencer Griffin singled home Jordyn Adams for a 1-0 lead. Burlington loaded the bases but Schmid struck out Connor Fitzsimons to end the frame.

The Chiefs tied the game in the bottom of the third against Burlington starter Robinson Pina. Wadye Ynfante was hit by a pitch to start the inning and stole second during Nolan Gorman's at-bat. Ynfante reached third on Gorman's groundout and scored on a groundout by Delvin Perez to tie the game at one.

Burlington regained the lead in the top of the fourth. A walk, single and walk loaded the bases before a bases loaded balk gave the Bees a 2-1 lead. After a single made it 3-1, Franyel Casadilla took over on the mound and loaded the bases on a walk and single. Two more runs crossed the plate before Casadilla struck out Harrison Wenson to end the inning.

Peoria responded by sending 10 batters to the plate in the bottom of the fourth. Brady Whalen, Juan Yepez and Bryce Denton walked to load the bases. Whalen and Yepez scored on Alexis Wilson's double to cut the deficit to 5-3 while knocking Pina out of the game. With one out, Ynfante singled to score Denton, and Wilson scored the tying run on a throwing error from Burlington left fielder Nonie Williams. After a single by Gorman to put runners on the corners, Perez bunted for a single and Ynfante scored to put the Chiefs ahead 6-5.

The Chiefs continued to build their lead in the bottom of the fifth. Denton and Wilson singled before Josh Shaw singled to score Denton from second for a 7-5 lead. Ynfante singled to score Wilson, his second RBI of the night for the 8-5 lead.

Schmid took the no decision, pitching three innings while allowing five runs on four hits with four walks and a season-high six strikeouts. Casadilla pitched one shutout inning allowing one hit with one walk and two strikeouts. Parker Kelly (1-1) earned his first win of the season, pitching three shutout innings allowing one hit with one walk and three strikeouts. Evan Sisk pitched the final inning allowing only one hit and notching one strikeout en route to his third save of the season.

Las Vegas Takes Opener from Memphis, 8-4

Las Vegas led 3-0 before the Redbirds scored twice in the fourth, with Nogowski singling home Sosa, who walked, and Ravelo after his double. But the Aviators scored three more in the sixth to make it 6-2 and another in the seventh to distance themselves from the Redbirds.

Nogowski had another RBI single in the eighth inning that brought the Redbirds within 7-4, but Las Vegas promptly added another run in the ninth that advanced the game to its eventual final score of 8-4.

Harold Arauz started and gave up three runs on eight hits in 5.0 innings. Chris Ellis, Dominic Leone, and Jesus Cruz followed out of the Memphis bullpen.

The Aviators (37-32) had three doubles, two triples, and two home runs as part of their 14-hit attack.

Not only did Memphis tie the game after trailing 7-1, but the Redbirds then equaled Las Vegas at 8 after falling behind 8-7.

June 17th Wrap

Memphis

Memphis Dropped by Las Vegas, 15-6
The Las Vegas Aviators (Athletics) scored in only two innings Monday night at AutoZone Park, but it was a seven-run second and an eight-run fifth to account for their scoring in a 15-6 win over the Memphis Redbirds (29-42).

The Redbirds were playing the game as the Memphis Música as part of Minor League Baseball's Copa de la Diversión series. The Música will play at AutoZone Park each Monday the rest of the season for "Música Monday."

Randy Arozarena and Kramer Robertson homered for the Redbirds, and Arozarena and Irving Lopez each had two hits. John Nogowski drove in a run, and he now has RBI in four-straight games and five of the last six.

Memphis used seven pitchers in the game, and the star was Dominic Leone, who worked 2.0 scoreless innings with two strikeouts.

Las Vegas (39-32) was led by five players with two hits apiece and a Franklin Barreto grand slam. Barreto finished with five RBI.

Chris Chinea made his Triple-A debut as a defensive replacement in the ninth inning.

The game was halted by rain for one hour and 20 minutes before the start of the third inning.
Springfield

FaGalde dominant in debut as Cards close 1st Half with 3-0 win
A 2019 Florida State League All-Star for High-A Palm Beach, RHP Alex FaGalde dominated the Midland RockHounds (34-35) in his Double-A debut on Monday, leading the Springfield Cardinals (30-40) to the 3-0 shutout win with 8.0 scoreless, two-hit innings.

With the win, the Cardinals close the 1st Half with a five-game winning streak, tied for their longest winning streak of the season. The 2nd Half of the season begins on Tuesday with the Cardinals continuing the series in Midland.

DECISIONS:
W: RHP Alex FaGalde (1-0)
L: RHP Kyle Friedrichs (1-3)
S: RHP Junior Fernandez (5)

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED:
-Neither side struck against either starter until the Cardinals scored the game's only runs in the top of the 7th. With RF Johan Mieses at first and one away, 1B Zach Kirtley belted an RBI double to center, before scoing on the next pitch when DH Chase Pinder pulled an RBI single to left. One out later, Pinder raced home from first on an RBI double by 3B Alberto Triunfel to make it 3-0.

NOTABLES:
-RHP Alex FaGalde was nearly unhittable in his Double-A debut, allowing just two singles and one walk in 8.0 shutout innings. He never allowed more than one RockHound on base at the same time and struck out the final two batters of his eighth frame, needing only 80 pitches (55 strikes) overall.

-RF Johan Mieses went 2x4 with a pair of singles and sparked the 7th inning rally with a base hit.

-1B Zach Kirtley's RBI double in the 7th is already his 5th double in just his first 11 Double-A games.

-DH Chase Pinder went 2x4 with his first RBI in Double-A this season.
