This is getting comical. Carlson now has picked up three hits in three consecutive games, and he had a streak of three two-hit games before that. To do the math for you, that's now six consecutive multi-hit games for the 20-year-old, and he's now hitting an unrealistic .552 /.606/.931 in his 29 at-bats with Memphis. Yes, this is a small sample, but Carlson raked in Double-A, and he's considered one of the very best outfield prospects in baseball. If this continues -- to a relative degree, hitting like this forever is impossible -- it's not out of the question that Carlson makes his debut with St. Louis this year. It's far more likely he's an everyday player for them at some point in 2020, however.

Re: Dylan Carlson SUPER MeGa Thread
Bader and Fowler have no business being "penciled in" anywhere. Fowler gave us a hell of a comeback year from what he was a year ago. But he can't be expected to repeat in 2020. Bader is who he is. Bad plate discipline with no slugging power. I think he's a great fielder but he's a luxury to have in CF. Need to be loaded in the corners before he should be in CF. Otherwise put O'Neill in CF since he has similar range and at least more power. /derailmikechamp wrote:

Carlson with another dinger last night and a single. His OPS drops for the second consecutive night and is down to 1.520 at Memphis.

Re: Dylan Carlson SUPER MeGa Thread
Cardinals OF prospect Dylan Carlson went 2-for-5 with a homer on Thursday for Triple-A Memphis.
We try and spread out the prospect updates to hit as many prospects as possible, but we've been doing daily updates on Carlson because he just won't stop hitting. The homer is the third in eight games since being promoted to Triple-A, and the two-hit game actually sees his average with the Redbirds "drop" to .529. Carlson didn't come into this season with a ton of hype, but he's going to end it as one of the top hitting prospects in baseball. The upside here is considerable.

Re: Dylan Carlson SUPER MeGa Thread
was just curious, as a switch hitter, if he was much better from one side? nope...
Batting LH - 396 PA, 305/386/551 OPS 938, 16 HRs
Batting RH - 125 PA, 282/360/545 OPS 905, 8 HRs
and thought this was interesting...part of the hype obv is that he's just 20 years old in AAA...but he's only had 6 PA with pitchers who are younger than him; just 6. every other PA is against an older pitcher (the other 515 PA).

The Cardinals have long loved this kid because of his makeup. They took him where they did because they were scared to death he would get picked by someone else before they had the chance. That seemed to bear truth when he signed for under slot.cardsfantx wrote: goold in his chat strongly suggested that the cards are more than likely to just give Ozuna a QO, and give Carlson every opportunity to earn a spot as a 21 year old out of ST next year and place him in CF. said the FO is infatuated with him basically...not saying he's Soto or Acuna, but it'd be awesome to have a young/home grown guy come up.
To say they are infatuated with him is true from what I have been told (by area scouts of both the Cardinals and other teams when their teams asked about him).
Would be surprising to see him start coming out of ST though due to service time concerns.

That's some good stuff. I've always kind of thought that switch hitters would be better giving up one side, but not if he's that consistent either way. Few players can keep that up for their careers.cardsfantx wrote:was just curious, as a switch hitter, if he was much better from one side? nope...

Just checking a few career wRC+'s from recent Cardinal switchee's:
Berkman - 155/105
Beltran - 123/121
Fowler - 104/117
