Re: General Soccer Thread
Tough to rember a time that someone came up with so much hype at such a young age in any sport and then delivered so much so fast. Tiger woods had a ton of hype into the us amateurs then destroying the field in his first Masters as a pro. Bryce Harper had a ton of hype and somewhat delivered. Dunno about any superstars like that in hockey. Steph curry was never hyped. LeBron certainly ly was but did not win a championship for a few years. Kobe certainly was hyped. Its just really uncommon to get both the hype and the immediate results pulisic has. Granted they're WC qualifiers. But he's played 3 games and has what 3 goals and 3 assists? For a team that was looking like they might be in trouble of qualifying?

Apparently there's a 17 y/o they moved up to the U20 team from the St Louis area that is looking like the next big thing.
Two US born next big things could bode well.

I think if you look at it in context, what Pulisic is doing is similiar to your examples. Where would this team be without him? Would we even be on a path to qualifying? Probably, but we're looking much better than that right now.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote:Tough to rember a time that someone came up with so much hype at such a young age in any sport and then delivered so much so fast. 1) Can confirm that Josh Sargent is an absolute stud. Long way to go to put him in Pulisic territory though.lukethedrifter wrote:Apparently there's a 17 y/o they moved up to the U20 team from the St Louis area that is looking like the next big thing.

2)You can pretty much track the rise of national teams through their U-20 World Cup talent and we've always been up and down. Every 3-4 cycles since the Donovan-Beasley teams in '99 we look really good. The last two cycles we have played as good and looked as talented as any team in the world. 2022 and 2026 should be two really strong senior teams, and the pipeline infrastructure is only getting better with MLS academies, foreign club academies, and increased investment from US Soccer into youth development.

USMNT vs. Mexico tonight in Mexico.
Arena's lineup is not awesome. He's putting too much into the short turn around. A draw would be a good result.

That's what you got. Would have been nice to see Pulisic get off a better shot there at the end.Fat Strat wrote:USMNT vs. Mexico tonight in Mexico.

Re: General Soccer Thread
In the world we live in, a draw at Azteca is still an incredible, almost unprecedented result. Bruce planned to put a cynical lineup on the field for months. All camp long they prepared to execute two drastically different game plans with two drastically different lineups over the course of 4 days. When you think of it in those terms, it's very impressive.lukethedrifter wrote:That's what you got. It was far from fun, Bradley's insane goal aside, but last night really hammers home the difference between Jurgen and Bruce. Preparation gets results.

6 goals in 45 years.
We are now 1-19-3 at Azteca. The win and two of the ties are from our last 3 matches there. The win was a friendly.
