Fans are wondering about the fate of football in St. Louis as a deadline approaches for a plan to upgrade the home of the Rams.

Next Wednesday, Feb. 1, is the deadline for the St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission to outline how it will transform the Edward Jones Dome into a "first-tier" stadium by 2015. If it fails to do so, the Rams can break their lease - and potentially move - after the 2014 season.

I've heard talks of moving the Raiders back. There's room for two teams in the bay area, but it doesn't really seem necessary for football, IMO. I know a Raiders fan who is hoping that will be the case.

It is doubtful LA would build a stadium for an NFL team. The Raiders would move to LA just for better attendance in the LA Coliseum.

So just every 10-20 years the Raiders are going to be switching back and forth between LA and Oakland?

Are you sure about that? http://www.losangelesfootballstadium.com/ "Designed for the NFL"

What I've heard is that for the LA thing to work right they need an AFC and and NFC team.

The Oakland thing is the same as baseball. They need to be south of SF not north (ie San Jose) for NorCal to work out.

Why does LA need two teams to work? They couldn't support two, so they moved, Now they can only have 2?

And there's apparently some fits being made in SanFran around Giants/Oakland stuff. A friend who lives in San Jose, says that the Giants are getting mad that the A's want to build a new stadium closer to San Jose. But San Jose is apparently the more affluent area and they're worried Oakland will pull some attendance from the Giants. Hearsay of course.

That Ed Roski project has been kicked around for years- the NFL has not agreed to put a team there so the money must not work right.

Why? Don't ask me.

NFL Preference

It is no accident that AEG announced naming rights even before a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the City of Los Angeles, let alone a Disposition and Development Agreement. The NFL and Roger Goodell have viewed AEG’s downtown Los Angeles stadium as a viable option since 2009, when AEG began in earnest their behind the scenes push to sell the stadium to Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and the City Councilmembers. The NFL knew about the naming rights negotiations with Farmers Insurance from the get-go and welcomed the strategic partnership. AEG would not be focused on Farmers Field without the NFL’s blessing.

Likewise, Majestic would not be shovel ready without the NFL’s blessing as well. In fact, the NFL has mandated to Majestic that its stadium allow for two NFL teams. Taylor Talt, Project Manager for LA Stadium, referenced this ongoing communication with the NFL in our discussions. “The NFL has mandated that our plans include the necessary requirements for two teams but our focus in on securing the first team,” he said. “”We are confident in our proposal and excited about the next steps.” And the next steps will be updating the NFL owners next week at a league meeting, where Roger Goodell and the NFL will hear about both LA Stadium and Farmers Field.
