I don't care about the bulls, but I am curious to see how D Rose will come back. When does next season start? 6 months is the standard for getting the green light to cut/run/jump/twist/move in general with no restrictions so long as you have a brace on and 2 years is the standard for being able to do all that without a brace.

Timetables though can vary wildly. Antecdotally, I play soccer with a 45 year old guy that tore his ACL in december and is back to playing with us on Wednesdays with no reservations...just wearing a brace. Cutting/running/stopgo/whatever at full speed and said he feels great. Of course that guyisn't relying on his knee to make him millions of dollars adn if he blows it out again I get the felling he'd just get surgery again and not be too upset (though that is a stupid mindframe). But, the point remains, his doctor and PT cleared him to do whatever only 4 mos after surgery to resume all activity. Some people, like pro athletes, seem to take a year or two to get back to 100% and some never do. I hope Rose can get there. It'll be interesting to see.

It's a big questions mark, and like TJ surgeries (maybe moreso with the ACL) results vary. My son really had trouble with his at the 6 month mark, and he said still if he goes jogging some days he feels it. But he actually played an entire football game after the tear and had quite a bit of meniscus damage to go along with it (and grade 3 MCL tear), I'm sure that didn't help. Hopefully with DRose it was just the ACL and the meniscus and MCL were ok. But I think Bulls fans would be kidding themselves if they think Derrick Rose is just going to jump back in the court next December or so and be himself. Realistic expectation would be to return around Christmas, play some and show flashes of his former self. The following year you would hope he would return to close to his former self on a consistent basis.

All they can do is clean up the meniscus. And by clean up they really mean just shave it down so it's a smooth surface again. That of course means eliminating some of the meniscus which means there is less cartilage. And once it's gone it's not coming back. So...yeah, meniscus tears while not a big deal at the time (compared to ALC tears) have lingering effects that never really go away.

I actually don't doubt he can return in 6 months, but people shouldn't expect him to be 100%. Heck, even if he is, he's likely going to baby it.

My sources tell me they are filming a documentary on his surgery and rehab recovery.

News report said to expect a 9-month rehab for Rose, which is about normal. No news about his meniscus, which is probably good news.

A few consecutive, relevant tweets came across my timeline, so I figured I'd pass it along:

Looks like I'm going to be watching a lot of soccer next winter.

Gar Forman confirms Thibs' contract option will be picked up next season.

Yeah no [expletive], moron. How about getting him locked up for top dollar? Make it a priority.

AW, all meniscus repairs are not created equal. My first repair I lost nothing. Second, 50%.

Meniscus bros: Derrick's ACL tear was clean with no meniscus tears.
