I read this the other night. This is why college sports are such a farce. The kids are pros, and are getting paid but we just pretend they aren't. There is no salary cap to keep competition even. It's just whatever colleges have the most and wealthiest fans are going to be the ones that land the best players and win. Since rosters turn over so much every year college should be the toughest places to build a dynasty but it is actually one of the easiest, and all this hidden money is a big reason why. "Oh no, they all just really wanted to play for Coach." Yeah right.

I heard Donna Shalala on NPR this month talking about this topic. They asked her some tough questions, but did not push hard enough and also failed to ask why Athletic Directors get bonuses when their teams win. She used the laughable claim that paying players would actually tilt the playing field in favor of universities with more money. You know, as opposed to our current setup. Hahahahaha

SIEGEL: But why must it be a universal policy? Why couldn't a university that wants to make life a little bit more comfortable for their athletes do so without having to be answerable to a vote of the NCAA?

SHALALA: Because it would violate the basic principles of the NCAA. And that is one school, because it has more resources, should not have an advantage over another school that doesn't have the resources. And that's what's exciting about NCAA sports. Schools that aren't rich get to compete at the highest level.
