Worth a watch documentary now on Netflix.

A local guy is signed up for similar event this year, put on by same guy as the Barkleys -500K Vol State across Tennessee.

one finisher of the 2016 Barkley Marathons. Was following it on twitter occasionally - started Saturday morning, and he finished last night. Hard to comprehend.

Campbell finished the five loops in about 59 hours and 30 minutes Monday night, just under the 60-hour cutoff. He bested Barkley first-timer Gary Robbins, himself an accomplished ultrarunner from North Vancouver, British Columbia. Robbins, 39, started the fifth loop but had difficulty navigating on little sleep in the dense backcountry of Frozen Head State Park

Eric Byrnes is an endurance athlete now. Can't think of any ex-MLBers doing this sort of [expletive].

Bunch of triathalons. And Western States 100.

And he's made a documentary about his Western States journey https://vimeo.com/ondemand/diamondtotherough

Heard about it on this podcast -which is suprisingly kind of a fun listen. He's still a meathead. but going from a pro athlete in one activity to an amatuer mediocre one in another- interesting way to spend his time. Also makes a passionate and somewhat reasoned (but meathead-ish) defense of his friend Lance Armstrong towards the end of the podcast

There were some dramatics at the conclusion of Barkley Marathons today. One finisher. Apparently another (Gary Robbins) did not make it to the finish in time (60 hour cutoff) to join the exclusive finishers club - missing by seconds.

This is unreal - a human being climbed up El Capitan with no ropes etc.
