When Richard III's bones were found in Leicester in 2012, they were in the second tier of English football Now, they have won the Premier League championship. They have obviously benefitted from giving Richard a proper burial.

Was this the equivalent of the Cubs winning the World Series?

You could say it was much greater than that.

Along with a worst to first performance, they were almost relegated to the next league down last year except for some brilliant play over their last 9 games. This off-season they didn't really improve too much and went off at 5,000 to 1 odds to start the season. By comparison, the odds of the worst MLB club to win the World Series this year is the Braves at 500-1.

This was a monumental achievement.

Because of promotion/relegation it's just not analogous to anything in American sports. It's like if there were a baseball team in Hartford that was languishing in A or AA for most of their history and then they finally made it to the bigs, except in these big leagues, every contending team has a payroll of around $350-400,000,000 and they only have a payroll of $86,000,000 and they still won it all. It's the most astounding championship run in sports history not just because it's an unlikely team out of nowhere, but because there's this entire global marketplace that has designed the system for only a handful of teams to succeed.

If this is interesting to you, this is worth watching:

Pep isn't wasting time. He bought Ilkay Gundogan today. Man City is going to be tough to beat and they're just getting started.
