Vegas only has 2 million people working mostly low paid service jobs and 3 million in Nevada total. Vegas gets 45 million tourists a year. It's the most unique economy in america and was hit harder than anyone by the recession. There's only so much money they can collect from local residents, so tourism foots the bill for everything. They basically found 750 million in new revenue and turned around and gave it to a billionaire and the NFL. It's a big F you to everyone that lives there regardless of how they structure their tax system.Socnorb11 wrote:cardsfansince82 wrote: Nevada has no state income tax, and low sales and property taxes. That tourism tax funds everything, including the schools statewide and Clark County in particular.
Maybe this is part of the reason why there's inadequate funding for schools?

FWIW, Las Vegas' median income is right in line with the national average.
I think there's something to be said fro having a football team, and a stadium is part of that. The owners throwing over a billion dollars into the city, and the tourist tax match is only about 1/2 of that, really. You're not going to get those types of matching funds for education.
Actually, they should just bump the tourist tax a full 2 percent, and take care of the stadium and the schools. Tourists wouldn't bat an eye.

Just raise the annoying [expletive] daily resort fees another few dollars each day. They're already, what, anywhere from $30 to $40 a day in Vegas?Socnorb11 wrote:FWIW, Las Vegas' median income is right in line with the national average.

Chase Daniel returns to the Saints. It's about as charmed a life as you can ask for.

I think the legal gambling led partly to the decision.....people being able to lay down bets and then actually go watch the game is going to draw in the gamblers like crazy.

If they're building a brand new stadium in Vegas you just know that Vegas will be in the regular rotation for the Super Bowl, no way they go more then 5 years without holding the Super Bowl there. Probably will also be able to host things like College Football Championship game and WrestleMania type of events.
