You’re not gonna believe this but it seems the Patriots benefited from an iffy call.

Yup. If that's not a touchdown, then the rule needs changed.

The NFL loves giving refs a chance to decide games. Replay has ruined the game. It was meant to let them know if a runner stepped out of bounds, or if the ball was fumbled before a knee hit the ground, or if a receiver got both feet down. Something that is (mostly) cut and dried and to only be overturned with incontrovertible visual evidence. It wasn't meant to review something that remains open to interpretation even while watching the replay.

The explainer video literally starts with the phrase “as you see here, Roethlisberger completes a pass to James.”

The controversy over what constitutes a catch has been around longer than you think.

Can you believe this one was ruled a TD catch, helping the Big Red make the playoffs?

Wow. And especially compared to Pitt game. I really can't figure out how that was not a catch and TD for Pitt. His knee and elbow both hit earth. The outcome of that is completely illogical. Suppose a defender hit him to cause the ball to dislodge before he hit the ground but after he already crossed hit knee etc- that I believe would be a TD
