Loved his writing in Sports Illustrated back in the day.

I liked Deford. I thought he was a smart guy. His prose style could be a bit florid and self-congratulatory (I guess I'm calling myself out, as well), but his opinions were regularly worth listening to.

I could barely listen to his spoken bits on NPR.

They were ok 10-15 years ago. But for the last several years, I agree with you.

He didn't age well like Red Barber did. I thought Red Barber's takes were great right up to the end.
