Freese hit .302-17-96 last year at high A ball.Moving quickly to replace center fielder Mike Cameron, the Padres have agreed to a trade that will bring them center fielder Jim Edmonds, a 37-year-old who has won eight Gold Gloves.
The Cardinals are to get single-A third baseman David Freese, a minor leaguer. Cash will also be part of the deal, which could be made official as soon as Saturday. In talks last month, the Padres said they would be interested in Edmonds only if St. Louis helped to pay for his $8 million salary.

If we're subsizing any of his contract AND only getting a fringe prospect in return, I may puke.

Re: Edmonds heading to San Diego
I'd be pretty upset about the weak package if that's true... but maybe that's just my sentimental side talking.
But hopefully this allows Ank to move to CF while waiting for Rasmus (if he doesn't make the big club out of ST now) and puts Barton in RF and in the line-up everyday.
Anyone got stats and scouting on this A 3B??

Michael, you've got a revenue opportunity here. Let people pay $1 per curse word.
This goes beyond WARPs and Win Shares. This hurts.

story's gone. I'm suspicious, but that's a weird story to fabricate.
