Finally, here is the humorous exchange after Cardinals second baseman Skip Schumaker sent third baseman Mark DeRosa a text message with news of the Holliday trade:

Schumaker: "Finally, we get a middle-of-the-order hitter!"

DeRosa: "I guess I was just an appetizer."

Matt Holliday was 4-for-5 with an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base in his Cardinals debut on Friday night against the Phillies.
It's fair to say that three of his four hits were cheapies, but he nearly hit one out in the seventh. It doesn't take a fantasy genius to realize that Holliday figures to benefit greatly by leaving Oakland. Did you hear that? It's the Cardinals lineup suddenly becoming quite scary.

some of the interesting interplay that comes through in that article a little: Holliday has been working out in the offseason with McGwire for a while now. This past offseason Schumaker worked with them. He's been surrounded by St. Louis secret agents for a while now...hopefully that pays off when the extension talks begin.

The first thing I did this morning was to check this thread to make sure yesterday wasn't just a dream.

Went to visit some friends last night an hour away, so I missed the game. Sounds like he made a good go of his first game.

No, he's wearing #15 (oh, you mean title #11. I get it.)

Where the hell have you been???
I am not able to access GRB from work. Plus when I get back from work, my daughter come running towards me and from then onwards I need to give her all the attention. And here in Georgia we are having one of the beautiful summers of all-time. Not much heat, not much humidity. I am enjoying those going outdoors with my family.

It's hard to get into the flow of discussion when you can't access GRB from work :(

Holliday trade is worth doing given roster, team age, contracts, but upgrade is small: less than two wins down the stretch.
Have we gotten our less than 2 wins from Holliday yet?

I'm pretty sure we got two wins from Holliday this week.
