If you aren't fully engorged for this game...nevermind. I trust that you all are.

To my untrained eye, Carpenter had an odd follow thru on Tuesday. And it was a good sign that he managed to fix it for a 1-2-3 third inning last game. He probably would have finished a few more innings strongly. But glad that he's fresh and ready for tonight.

Quote:
Carpenter was 'spinning off" on his pitches, moving his delivery from side to side instead of directly toward the plate.

"The strike zone was not a real issue with him," La Russa said. "His delivery was not good early. In fact, if you saw like the third inning, he got into it, (Dave Duncan) recognized what it was ... and he adjusted it."

Good news. I'm hung over. The Cardinals have only won on days over the past 2 weeks in which I was hung over.

Matt Holliday took a full round of batting practice Thursday at Citizens Bank Park and said the inflamed tendon in his right middle finger feels better than it has at any time over the past week.
"Hitting is much improved," Holliday said. Unless he has a setback prior to Friday's game, it sounds like there's no doubt the Cardinals' left fielder will be in the lineup for Game 5. He was 1-for-3 with a pair of runs scored in his lone start of the series in Game 4.

Cardinals manager Tony La Russa won't pencil Skip Schumaker (hamstring) into Friday's lineup until he sees how the second baseman feels during the pre-game workout.
Schumaker, who left Wednesday's game with a left hamstring cramp, was not limited during Thursday's workout at Citizens Bank Park and, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, "laughed off" any concerns that he wouldn't be available for Game 5. It sounds like he'll be fine to start, but we'll see how he comes through the workout.

Kyle McClellan (dead arm) hopes to be added to the NLCS roster if the Cardinals make it.
McClellan has been throwing bullpen sessions in hopes that he'll have improved his health and strength enough to be part of the next round's roster. It's no guarantee that it will happen, but he gives the Cards another option. McClellan posted a 7.71 ERA in September while allowing five home runs over his last 11 2/3 innings.

It sure would be great to have Craig at 2b, but I'm sure Tony wants the best infield defense possible for Carp.

Btw, I had an opportunity to have dinner tonight with Gene Kranz, mission director of Apollo 13, but I turned it down because I'd have to miss the game.
