Matt Holliday took a full round of batting practice Thursday at Citizens Bank Park and said the inflamed tendon in his right middle finger feels better than it has at any time over the past week.
"Hitting is much improved," Holliday said. Unless he has a setback prior to Friday's game, it sounds like there's no doubt the Cardinals' left fielder will be in the lineup for Game 5. He was 1-for-3 with a pair of runs scored in his lone start of the series in Game 4.

Cardinals manager Tony La Russa won't pencil Skip Schumaker (hamstring) into Friday's lineup until he sees how the second baseman feels during the pre-game workout.
Schumaker, who left Wednesday's game with a left hamstring cramp, was not limited during Thursday's workout at Citizens Bank Park and, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, "laughed off" any concerns that he wouldn't be available for Game 5. It sounds like he'll be fine to start, but we'll see how he comes through the workout.

Kyle McClellan (dead arm) hopes to be added to the NLCS roster if the Cardinals make it.
McClellan has been throwing bullpen sessions in hopes that he'll have improved his health and strength enough to be part of the next round's roster. It's no guarantee that it will happen, but he gives the Cards another option. McClellan posted a 7.71 ERA in September while allowing five home runs over his last 11 2/3 innings.
