Sounds like this was just about the hush money payments, not a carte blanche tell everything about Trump.

Amazing this thread almost fell onto page 2.

The $30 million leverage Mueller has on Manafort
Quote:
While it hasn’t gotten a lot of attention, both Manafort indictments include forfeiture provisions, meaning the government will seize his ill-gotten gains. And because Manafort had a [expletive] of ill-gotten gains, there’s a whole lot of stuff that the government can now seize, starting with his ostrich skin suits.

Having been found guilty of charges 25 and 27 in his EDVA trial, for example, the government will seize the funds from the $16 million loan Manafort got by lying to Federal Savings Bank.
Quote:
In the DC case, even more ill-gotten gains are at stake. Manafort stands to lose the proceeds of his influence peddling, the laundered proceeds of which the indictment says amount to $30 million. Manafort might lose, among other things, four of his homes.
Quote:
Up until now, it has always seemed that the most logical explanation for Manafort’s actions was a calculus that the evidence against him was so overwhelming and the prison sentence he faced so substantial that his best bet was to do anything he could to get a presidential pardon.

But now, he already faces losing around $16 million and stands to lose $30 million more, and he’s been effectively broke since 2016 anyway. And it’s not clear that a presidential pardon prevents that from happening (and bmaz suggests that even if Trump managed the pardon deftly enough to prevent that, DOJ could seize it all civilly anyway, especially since the pardon would amount to admission of guilt).

So on top of calculating whether he trusts Trump enough to rely on that pardon, Manafort (and the lawyers he likely still has to pay) also have to be wondering how many houses his freedom is worth.

This really isn't a huge news story, but still wanted to pass it along:

Manafort signed a cooperation agreement. This is big. Talk about someone who knows where the bodies are buried.

Manafort is a significant figure in several threads of the Russia investigation. He led the Trump campaign from March to August of 2016, during one of the most pivotal periods in the election season.

During that time he exchanged emails with a former Russian intelligence operative, Konstantin Kilimnik, offering the Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska "private briefings" about the campaign in what might have been an attempt to resolve a long-standing financial dispute with Deripaska.

He spearheaded the campaign when WikiLeaks published thousands of emails that Russia had stolen from the Democratic National Committee. He was also one of three top campaign officials who attended a June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower with two Russian lobbyists offering dirt on Hillary Clinton as part of the Russian government's support for Trump's candidacy.

Hard to say what Mueller has amassed against Trump. It may be "just "the grifting and trying to use his candidacy and then the office of POTUS for making money off Russia (or have old debts with settled). "Just" being a hilarious word.

It seems that Mueller is good at keeping the clamps on info. Only releases enough to show that it's making progress.

Yeah, this can be maddening at times, but I suppose it's necessary.

I hope in the worst way that Mueller knows what he's doing.

Here are two useful sets of tweets concerning the Manafort plea agreement:
