The warming Arctic permafrost may be releasing more nitrous oxide, a potent greenhouse gas, than previously thought
Quote:
In a 2010 paper, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rated permafrost nitrous oxide emissions as “negligible,” and few studies counter this claim.

But a paper published this month in the journal Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics shows that nitrous oxide emissions from thawing Alaskan permafrost are about 12 times higher than previously assumed. Since N2O traps heat nearly 300 times more efficiently than carbon dioxide does, this revelation could mean that the Arctic — and the global climate — are in more danger than we thought. “Much smaller increases in nitrous oxide would entail the same kind of climate change that a large plume of CO2 would cause,” said Wilkerson, the paper’s first author and a Ph.D. student at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences based in the lab of James G. Anderson, the Philip S. Weld Professor of Atmospheric Chemistry at Harvard.

It's longer than you may want to watch at 14 mins but it takes 3 or so minutes to list the guy's creds so we know he's telling the truth. So I'll understand any tl;dw comments.

Net - this is all political and it started with Obama's first inaugural address. There are 32 global models regarding climate change - 31 of them are demonstrably wrong because they are based on fudged parameters to meet a political objective. The 32nd is the only one that is accurate and scientifically-based - wait for it - the Russian one.

Boom - game, set, match. We can probably lock this thread now.

(this was sent out in a mass mailing by my college roommate turned oil baron member of the 1% in OKC who said "this is worth a listen, also somewhat scientific... it’s at least logical")
