A measure requiring public schools to say the “Pledge of Allegiance” daily is now in effect in Missouri.

Lawmakers said individual students won’t be forced to participate.

The law also requires an American flag to be displayed at schools at all times.

Previously, the “Pledge of Allegiance” was required once a week.

Nice of our legislators to tackle the real issues.

Pledges of all kinds are silly and pointless IMO, but that still ought to be a conscious and informed decision.

I was raised Catholic and I remember finding out that many Protestants don't get baptized until they're older and the reason being that it's best to wait until they've clearly chosen that for themselves. Makes a lot more sense and I think that applies with the PoA. It should never be a requirement though.

Can't we just legislate that everyone has to love America and never criticize anything or else they go to jail? There, problems solved.

As did I. And I wonder, since it's not mentioned in the short article, if the words "under God" have been eliminated.

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. Thank you very, very much for letting us little kids live here. You didn't have to do it. And it's really not creepy to have little kids mindlessly recite this anthem every day and pledge their life to a government before they're old enough to really think about what they're saying. This is not a form of brainwashing. This is not a form of brainwashing. This is not a form of brainwashing. This is really the greatest country in the whole world. All the other countries suck. And if this country ever goes to war, as it's often wont to do, I promise to help go and kill all the other country's kids. God bless Johnson & Johnson. God bless GE. God bless CitiGroup. Amen.
