He loves campaigning though. It feels like that's the only thing he really does. He loves getting in front of a crowd.

I think he absolutely runs in 2020 because he loves it so much. And if he loses he'll have a truckload of excuses ready to roll. Election is rigged by the dems, yadda yadda.

Four truckloads imo

You may be right that the reckoning for Trump will be 2020. At what point though would he have to decide not to run again so Republicans could nominate someone else? Wouldn’t it be like in the next 8-10 months, so there is time to get names on a ballot for all the primaries and caucuses? If he decides some time after that, will there be some abbreviated process to come up with a nominee?

LBJ’s “I shall not seek” speech wasn’t until March 31, 1968.

One possibility I didn't think of that was briefly outlined in this article: the law may not allow a sitting president to be indicted. So it's possible he could lose election in 2020 and get indicted the moment he leaves office

Quote:
Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s current personal lawyer, has said over the past year that he’s focusing on defeating potential impeachment charges because he thinks Mueller won’t indict a sitting president. “[The strategy] is for public opinion, because eventually the decision here is going to be impeach [or] not impeach,” he said in May. As I noted last week, however, the greater risk for Trump is a federal indictment if he loses reelection in 2020. (There’s already considerable debate about whether he can be indicted while in office, but that question becomes moot the moment he’s no longer president.)

which is why I wouldn't be surprised to see President For Life added to the end of his name. Or at least the attempt made. Ultimately, I truly believe it will be up to the generals to decide how this idiot's career ends.

I don't think that would ever happen. For every general like Flynn who will like and scheme to aid the campaign and administration of an evil stupid criminal, there are a dozen that will take their vow to honor our constitution seriously and who wouldn't be like "Yeah, let's fight a civil war against the majority of our citizens to empower a man baby."

I think the next step hinges right now on Pelosi. Do you move for impeachment? It could be deemed politically risky--Clinton's approval ratings went up, Gingrich's Congress saw theirs go down after the impeachment stuff. However, all Clinton did was get a beej from an enthusiastic young lady and then tell a lie about it. He was a good President. Trump is a terrible President whose inner circle is going to jail at a pretty good clip. He didn't cop a beej, he is probably an asset of our worst enemy, a murderous thug, and Trump has helped undermine our democracy. That's big stuff. So I hope Pelosi is not thinking in terms of the historical precedent of Gingrich, because that precedent deals with a successful President, not a crazy clown kidnapping kids and agitating all our trade partners and screwing up our economy.

I really hope it doesn't get this far. But the orange sh!tgibbon would be perfectly happy to do this. Of that, I have no doubt. But the very fact that rational people see this as the most likely path we're headed down scares the bejeezus out of me.

If he sees removal from office as inevitable then he will do everything possible to tank the economy and wreak havoc on his way out.

That way he can sit in his cell and tweet about how [expletive] things have gotten since the Witch Hunters got their way!

Sounds far-fetched but IMO is more possible than a POTUS For Life in which our military and he subjugate the public to permanent tyranny. After all, Putin has put him in place to tank our economy and wreak havoc on our country,
