If you haven't seen the story about the USPS union collaborating with the USPS in support of the Hillary campaign, it is on CNN.com.

I worked for the USPS for three years. And though I'm pretty much anti-union, I mean, yes they were needed, but they can't keep out of politics, I joined and was halfway proud. If I found out that my dues were going for something like this, I'd be upset. I would be upset if they supported Trump too. I just don't think it is their place.

Plus, how much of my union dues goes to hot shot lobbyists, and how much actually goes to worker protection (or are they the same)?

I'm not going to defend every union or their political maneuverings, but unions getting involved in politics is why we have the middle class, weekends, and vacation time. Pretty much every humane labor practice that we now take for granted.

Whether they're currently doing a good job is a case-by-case thing, but too often people forget what unions have done for society.

I don't forget, I did say they were necessary in the past, and even to some extent today.

The unions didn't win and haven't won for a long time (politically).

Though you would think that group was omnipotent like individual rich guys -the Koch Brothers, Sheldon Adelson etc.

The Republican ideal is:

No unions
Less or no regulations
Less social programs and safety nets

In the real world something has to give if workers are going to maintain a decent standard of living.

So 97 union guys got unpaid leave and paid by their union to try to elect Hillary. The other side is gerrymandering, purging voter rolls, has a propaganda machine worth billions, and is colluding with foreign states to try to win. Since no one is ever punished for any of this, all that is left to do is hope my side ratchets up their efforts to win, even if they are unlawful. Nothing matters any more except winning. I could care less about this incident. Democrats and unions should be trying to cheat way more than this if they want to win. The people who don't like unions are probably never going to like them, even as they win them benefits. We can't worry about that.

Also note that the guy that blew the whistle for this won't spend a single day in jail. He may even collect that reward they have for whistleblowers now. But blow the whistle on our neoliberal industrial war complex (yes, which includes both Democrats and Republicans), and you are an enemy of the state.
