The GOP's motto must be "how cruel can we be?"

Teachers' union in our district asked for a raise. They were told that the only way to afford it would be to take some teachers off of the payroll. The union said "do it then".

........ and so it was done.

I'm not sure if that's a win or a loss.

My gut says a loss.

Reminds me of AT&T giving out the thousand dollar bonuses after tax reform, then laying off hundreds (thousands?) of workers.

Not exactly the same thing. The district is definitely broke, and it's not from mismanagement. I don't think for a minute that they were bluffing. I see why teachers want more money, too. Definitely understand both sides of it.

Oh I didn't mean to make it sound like it was 1 for 1. But job losses still tilt the scales for me. Of course, I sympathize with teachers wanting more as well.

The union chose layoffs of fellow union teachers in order to get a raise? Do you have a link to the story?

Poor communities dont have decent tax base but need good schools. Choice and Bussing all over the place won't do it. That depends on good parents willing to sacrifice substantial hassle in the commute and logistics, not to mention their kids being outsiders.

I guess what I am saying is we with our Govt need to work for better public schools for all. How this relates to WV, it is one of the have-nots. Local control of schools, I am a fan. But the funding needs equalization by state and fed when states can't do it.
