Thinking about making a thread like this for all the major candidates. Just a place to dump all the good or bad stuff about that particular candidate and leave the general/horserace stuff for the 2020 thread.

Doing Warren first because I think she's my pick, and then this came up today. Seeing mixed reactions to it. Main criticism is that it's No Child Left Behind/Race to the Top but for hospitals. Basically penalizing hospitals for factors outside their control, which then negatively affects all the patients that depend on them. Seems about right.

Without a lot more thinking and research, I'm not sure I care for that idea at the moment. Off the top of my head it would seem like that policy would do more to harm women/babies during an at-risk pregnancy because no doctor or hospital would want to be involved with at-risk pregnancies if they can somehow avoid them.

And then what about Cardinal Glennon or St. Louis Children's who are the ones that the more problematic pregnancies and deliveries (if there is time) get sent to from other hospitals. I can see other hospitals trying to send even more pregnant women to the specialists in those hospitals so their ratings don't tank but at the same time potentially costing those two children's hospitals to suffer.

That's all just based off of my first impression and about ten seconds of thought though. To be fair, about ten seconds of thought is all I'm capable of these days.

Regarding that policy summary - do not like. Sounds like No Child Left Behind but for hospitals. Taking money away from poorly performing entities (or as tlombard described, hospitals that specialize in difficult cases) makes it harder for them to be better.

Obamacare did some health pay for performance stuff as well. My understanding is the results are not that impressive.

Sarah Kliff had a program about California’s more successful efforts, which require deeper intervention.

Not a fan of that plan as-presented.

Terrible idea. Same for tying reimbursements to patient satisfaction surveys.

Positive: her 40% worker share plan is good and actually quite socialist.

Negative: waffling on single payer. Thats supposed to be an easy one.

Positives: Best candidate based on policy, woman candidate, extremely intelligent, very progressive. Has been doing a much better job lately.

Negatives: Stating Native American on entrance exam, the DNA stunt, odd campaign video during announcement and slow start to campaign, media will obsess over likeability, will need to do better with minority votes. I'm going to say this with every candidate not named Bernie but can she attract his supporters? Needs to swamp media outlets more ala Buttigieg.

I like her as a VP candidate.

Pros: Not Donald Trump, Very intelligent, accomplished, diverse political career.
Cons: Not a natural politician. Her vernacular is too rehearsed and she seems unauthentic as she tries to amp up her crowds. Also too Hillary Clintony.
