Other Covers v2
This could just go in the "forgotten" thread but I thought maybe it would be better popped out into it's own thread.
The Ballad of Hollis Brown is one of those Bob Dylan snoozers with 9 verses and no chorus. Rise Against isn't a band I regularly listen to, but they did a great job with it:
That's from an Amnesty International Charity album with 76 Dylan covers, including Miley Cyrus from the last tournament. Some of the interesting or good ones were K'naan's take on With God on Our Side (he's a Sudanese refugee), Ke$ha audibly crying on Don't Think Twice, Dierks Bentley's Señor, and Betty LaVette's Most of the Time. Anyway, the album is a fun listen.

I don't recall the tourneys having any covers of Woody Guthrie songs

This is such a great version of a Dylan song you never heard of.

Bob Dylan walked through a huge puddle to Woody's house to try and get those songs that Wilco and Billy Bragg recorded. But when he got there Woody wasn't home or something (I don't recall the exact details). It's one of the interesting anecdotes in his book.lukethedrifter wrote:Woody never put Way Over Yonder to music so i disqualify it. [expletive] i love that song.
Honestly, I'd say we all lucked out on that.

I meant to enter this but forgot. Husker Du, at the peak of their speed addiction, covering the Byrds' "Eight Miles High." By cover, I mean SHREDDING.

I'm going to see if I can lure Third Man back here in one post:
The Pixies covering "In Heaven [Lady in the Radiator Song]" from David Lynch's Eraserhead.

Even Waylon couldn't save this song. I guess it's just too sad: cake in the rain and all. Recipe gone forever.
What a terrible effing song.
