This is a funny song for me to face off against. My older brother took classical guitar lessons as a kid. He played Malaguena at a grade school talent show and everyone thought he was a rockstar. I was jealous.

That Vic Chesnutt song...I'd never heard it before, but man. That's beautiful.

Going with Roy Clark, he owned that. The other song is going to go into my playlist too though.

Vic Chesnutt was a tortured soul who had plans to do an album with his friends in Cowboy Junkies before one of his suicide attempts finally took. I may be projecting things onto it, but I feel like the cover is great as a tribute/message/celebration/catharsis piece.

But if you're more into cultural appropriation, by all means, vote Clark. Let me just say, as I lower and wipe my monocle (the kind only coastal elites can buy), that I grew up listening to Segovia, so in the words of the philosopher Shania Twain (I was inches away from selecting her cover of The Immigrant Song): That Don't Impress Me Much.

Pity card? Check.
Trash talk? Check.

Obviously because of Hee Haw, but Roy Clark doesn't get his due as a guitarist. The man could shred.

QFT

There's another version of him doing Malaguena on an electric guitar back in the 60s/70s, but I like this version better on the straight acoustic. He just absolutely kills it.

EDIT: Here's a longer version of the Odd Couple scene from the video I linked above. Roy shreds the regular acoustic, banjo, violin, etc. The actual Malaguena clip used above is the last few minutes of this video.

Also here's one of him on the 12-string guitar (again from Hee Haw).

Are you buying all the entries on vinyl?
That's commitment, people. You could all learn from Luke.

Oh gosh no. I meant I spin in a circle when listening to mp3.
