That being said, "Captain Jack" is his best song.

[expletive] everything about "Piano Man"...I hope it dies in a fiery car crash (good chance with Billy driving) with Don McLean's "American Pie" and Meatloaf's "I Would Do Anything For Love".

I always thought that Glass Houses was Joel's best and most consistent album, and a good example of early 80's pop-rock. I didn't really like the previous or later work.

Accordingly, I'd have to say "Don't Ask Me Why" or "Sleeping with the Television on," from that album, which show him to be a capable lyricist.

My 7th grade CCD (Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, Catholic version of Sunday school) teacher played "Only the Good Die Young" in class and we discussed it. I'm sure it gave the boys lots of ideas.
